District twelve is a poverty stricken, starvation filled place. Unless you are on top, you don’t have the best chance of survival in a place like that. People like Katniss who could hunt and know who to trade to, would be ok enough to live. Also, people like Peeta who had access to bread, even if it was stale or burnt. However, many were not a fortunate and would get to the point where their starvation would take over and they would drop dead, the capital always trying to cover it up with a phony lie that the people of district twelve knew better than to believe. …show more content…
The opening scene in which we see a pan through of different people in district twelve, we see the distraught distant faces of those in the district. At the reaping ceremony, we view as everyone walks single file to what could be their doom. This gives an overview as to what this is really like for them. We start to feel their emotions in this situation. They are scare and defenseless, and the movie did a good job of making us feel the same way while watching. In the book when Prim’s name is called and Katniss volunteers in her place, we get a since for the way she must be feeling and what the scene looks like within our minds.
