Theory 1: The Teaching/Training Cycle
Introduction
“As Sarah Wayt BSc MAR” advises - Role, responsibilities and boundaries are evolving qualities within the teacher which are assessed and reflected upon using the teaching/training cycle.
The teaching/training cycle indicates the importance of undertaking some initial assessments at the start of the lesson to monitor learners for the work. This initial assessment may indicate a need to revisit some earlier learning to refresh the knowledge, skills or understanding needed to ensure learners can cope with and make progress in the lesson. Day-to-day assessment of learner's achievements and progress over the period will provide information about learner's general attainment and progress and identify any learner who might need additional support. Regular reviews provide opportunity to take stock of learner's learning.
The purpose of my session is to teach learners how to cook a three course meal. We are taking a step by step approach. First we would research different menus and then place 3 of each of the menu ideas into a hat to get what will be our starter, main and dessert (pudding). The course is for 3 weeks. Week 1- Watch and learn through handout and video presentation. Week 2 – Show/Tell and assessment procedures, Week 3- Evaluation of the whole process. Each session would be for 3 hrs one day per week. I have put together a handout called how to cook which will be given to each learner at the end of the first session, therefore not distracting them from what I am showing and teaching them. We would be cooking in the catering section of the college, where there is a large teaching kitchen which comprises of ovens, stoves, refrigerators, aprons and all the cooking utensils, they would need to complete the task.
The handout comprises of how to cook, it gives instructions of what you need to get for the menu – ingredients etc, how to measure ingredients, how to time and a picture of how the end product
