Thesis Statement: In the recent past there have been legislative proposals to drug test individuals who receive or apply for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits.
Introduction:
Do you believe that welfare recipients should be subject to a urinalysis before being able to receive food stamps, cash assistance or medical benefits through the government, or people who already receive these benefits should submit to random drug tests? We believe that if people are drug tested before they receive this government provided benefit, there would be less people taking advantage of the system.
If the individual fails the urinalysis, should they longer qualify to receive these benefits?

The main issue on the use of assistance money is if the recipients are using the benefits properly.
Many people abuse the benefits they receive that are supposed to be used to provide for their family.
Food stamps are sold for cash to buy drugs or other things that do not benefit their children’s health.
The best solution is drug testing all recipients as a requirement to receive assistance. This will lower the amount of abuse of the TANF assistance program and cut down the cost of assistance (Finzel, 2015).
Public assistance has a big impact on our communities and society as a whole. Especially on those less fortunate or low income families.
It is known that a number of the adults and young adults in these families suffer from a substance use disorder.
Drug testing those who receive TANF benefits will have a positive impact and could result in a number of these individuals to seek help for their substance use issues, with an outcome of lowering the overall crime rates in communities and decreasing the number of substance abusers in our overall society (Richey,
