Definition of Key Terms:
Mobile Platform - also described as an OS or operating system.
Mobile Device - a small computing device, typically small enough to be handheld (and hence also commonly known as a handheld computer or simply handheld) having a display screen with touch input and/or a miniature keyboard.
Mobile Application - a computer program designed to run on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers.
Android - a software package for smartphones, including many application programs.
Library – a collection of similar things (such as book or recordings), a place where books, magazines, and other materials are available for people to use or borrow.
Internet – an electronic communications network that connects computer networks and organizational computer facilitates around the world.
E-Book – a book that is read on a computer or other electronic device.
Background of the Study
Mobile devices are becoming available almost everywhere in the world today. With the power of portable computing in the hands of everyone and anyone, the time has come to consider using mobile devices for information dissemination.
Mobile devices are already being used by educational institutions in many countries.
Mobile devices have a network connection available almost (99.999%) of the time in almost every part of developed countries. Mobile devices network availability and penetration is happening at a dramatic pace in developing countries - already there is 68% penetration with an exponential growth of 10% per annum.
Libraries and information center rarely have enough resources to fulfill the needs of its clients.
With the help of Republic Act No. 7743, which provides for the establishment of “public libraries in every congressional district, city, and municipality, and reading centers in every barangay throughout the Philippines. It is essential for Filipinos to feel somewhat well – informed about the various services offered by their local libraries.
