They All Just Went Away Analysis
“I surrender,” a quote that has two different meaning for both the viewers and Jamie. Jamie has gone through many difficulties on his journey during the China and Japan War. He had to learn new skills to help him survive through this. He has made new friends, enemies, seen things he shouldn’t, and most importantly learn a new side of himself.

The starting part of the film showed Jamie as an arrogant, spoiled, eleven-year-old kid. He had almost everything wanted and wouldn’t listen to anyone, but his parents. During his wealthy times, he has always been curious with things, but has never understood what they meant. For example, there was this homeless man always outside his neighborhood and he would always watch never knowing how it felt to

This camp is something Jamie has never seen before. He had to learn how to survive on his own because he has never experienced something like this before. He has become humbler for people in his camp even though he needed to take care of himself too. He has matured so much learning not to be his spoiled, bratty, and privileged young self. After much time has passed, there is no one at the camp and it is only Jamie there. The people who were originally in the cap have all left because it was no longer safe there anymore. Jamie had gone with them in the beginning, but came back because it was the only home he knows. He has lived there for three years and can’t even remember his parents faces and decided to come back to where he remembers. When back at the camp he rummages around and finds all the food can eat. He is very hungry because of all the walking he has done and is trying to eat as much as he can. Jamie starts to mess around during the camp, by riding his bike all around the place. First, he rode the bike around the kitchen like he did in the beginning of the movie. He then rode it outside where one of the soldiers stopped him. Jamie had to stop his bike right in front of the soldier looking like he was in trouble. When Jamie looks up he said, “I surrender”. When Jamie said this, it felt like he had more of a reason to say it. He was messing around in the camp

Soldiers’ lives were lost one after the other, day by day as the war went on. In the beginning of the novel, Paul’s company received a short stay after two weeks of fighting. Only 80 men out of 150 were still alive. The cook didn’t want to give the survivors the rations that were meant for the dead men, but eventually agreed to do so. The soldiers dealt with the many deaths and their aspects changed with their wants. For example, food and double rations of cigarettes were more important…

From the early 1600s and ever since the colonists made their way to what would become the Americas, there was significant pressure put on these people to perform. These men and women were on their way to the new land for a variety of reasons, but many were not of high standing in England and were seeking to reach higher. With so much at stake, the colonists had nothing to lose, and everything to gain. And because the conditions were so unknown and inexplicable, when the pressure was harsh, the colonists used emotion and force to get what they wanted. This raw emotion mobilized violent group action that was used in several different ways during the colonization of America.…

It is a glimpse into how differently a father would raise his children if given a chance to do so without interference or boundaries. It reminds us that once parents learn to listen to each other instead of fighting with each other during divorce proceedings they will finally come around to doing what is best for their children. The movie introduces the viewers to the changing dynamic of the American family. Mothers are no longer stay at home moms who simply tend to children and cook meals. These days women like Miranda Hillard (Sally Field) are career driven heads of industries. It is also not uncommon these days to find a stay at home dad like Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams). The problem with this situation is that even though mothers bring home the bacon, they are still expected to come home and perform their wifely and motherly duties. Something that society has not once, throughout the history or marriages expected from the husband and father. Such a situation indeed takes its toll on any marriage and weakens the foundation of the…

Alan de Botton’s views on the vital role of humorists in conveying unpopular or difficult to say perspectives is mostly incorrect. While it is undeniable that humorists are allowed to say some things other people normally can’t, the role of humorists in society is not vital because of these messages, nor is this immunity all-powerful in protecting these humorists from backlash. The vital function of humorists in society is not to be some sort of activist (society has enough of those already), but rather to be funny—to pursue their chief aim of entertainment, and to make people laugh.…
