They Call Us Maids
After watching the two videos on domestic workers I can honestly say I found the first one to be the most impactful. This was because of the way the video was styled, you didn’t see real photos or videos of people, instead it was like a painting moving throughout the film. This, along with the strong female voice overs made me want to listen closer, because it wasn’t perfectly clear what was going on you had to use the narrators’ words and tone of voice to get an emotional sense of what was happening.
The stories the women in “They Call Us Maids,” recalled were in all logistics, situations of modern slavery. These “maids” were isolated from the world outside the homes they worked in, as well as their selves. There was no time for likes and

    In the Southern states, slaves were forced to work and received no compensation. Being a slave meant you were often disrespected, demoralized, and detested.
