Think Aloud Analysis
What is being taught/addressed: This video is discussing a technique that can be used to help students with the 5th pillar of reading, comprehension. The teacher in this video is modeling how to do a think aloud to her students. The teacher explains how she stops at every heading to predict what will happen in the next section and reflect on what happened in the section they that was just completed. She also explained how helpful illustrations in text are to being able to figure out what is happening in a text. The teacher expresses how important it is to model technique first, so that all students have an example of what they are expected to do when they are using the technique independently. The think aloud strategy being used in this video is a great way for students to be able to improve their comprehension.

This video also made me think of the section in the text book that discusses Think-Alouds. The text book goes in to great detail the importance and effectiveness of Think-Alouds. The text book also discusses how Think- Alouds can be used in for different source of text, for example navigating the web. This example is the one that the textbook discussed on page 299 in great detail by providing a dialogue between a student and teacher. The text book provided a great amount of information on how to use Think-Alouds in the classroom. I believe that Think-Alouds are a great resource for students since it provides them with a model of how they should read and modeling has been proven to be very effective when teaching students.
