People saw Thomas Jefferson as many things a coward, a hero, and as a horrible person. Thomas Jefferson was the author of the Declaration of Independence and he, later on, became the president of the USA, from 1801 through 1809. In the 1800 election Jefferson, Aaron Burr and John Adams ran against each other. Jefferson and Burr for the Anti-Federalists and Adams for the Federalists. The Anti-Federalists or will become the Democratic-Republican party and is now the Democratic party. They favored more autonomy within the state governments. The Federalists on the other hand thought of a plan of government to that of a monarchy and also referred to pro-British policies as a betrayal to U.S. relations with France. After Thomas Jefferson ended his two terms as president he went back to his home monticello where he lived with his oldest daughter Martha and her husband and their two children. At monticello they held many parties and dinners but Jefferson got tired of all of the commotion and excitement so he decided to go off and build another home not to far off the estate of monticello and he named it Poplar Forest. Poplar Forest was about the size of monticello but it has a interesting feature it has a long deck in the back of the house. The deck covers what was the garage to store a carriage and horses, became a series of offices in 1814. The main house has two floors the bottom floor consisting of the kitchen, dining room, library, and the exit to the garage/offices in the west wing of the house. In the east wing there was the living room, music room, and lounge in the north was the entrance and in the south was the keeping room and the exit to the porch. The last structure that Jefferson built was the College of Virginia he received the charter for the college in 1819. He designed the college to more of a “academy village” and he designed the policies of the college to his political career. He also picked all of the books in the school's library and he also hired all of the staff. The school opened in 1825 and became a self-governing
