The government works because of the three branches of government: The Executive Branch consists of the President and everyone who works for him. The Legislative Branch consists of Congress. The Judicial Branch consists of the Supreme Court. Congress consists of two branches: The House of Representatives and the Senate. The House has Representatives from each state based on the State population Each state gets 2 Senators, regardless of population. There are 435 Representatives each given to two primary political parties in the US, the Democrats and the Republicans. All 435 representatives serve a two-year term.
