Case I: Should We Sacrifice One to Save Five?
A. This case is about a train driver that is facing a dilemma that has three different options to approach it. He has been given notice that his locomotive has a design fault that means that his train will blow up if it is going under fifty mph, which would kill the five hundred passengers on board. If he does not slow down, he would kill five people that are tied to the railroad that he is currently moving on. If not, he can press a button that would divert the train onto another railroad which can save the five people, but would kill one person that is tied to that railroad. So if he presses the

A. Ben and Bill are identical twins that have very opposite personalities in which Ben is not aggressive, no violent impulses, owns a poodle and rarely loses control. Bill on the other hand is aggressive by nature, struggles with violent impulses, owns a bulldog and often loses control. After getting into a fight with a sales person, in which Ben was holding the guy down while Bill was beating him up. After going to court, Ben ended up with a longer time in jail than Bill. Ben can change this verdict with some sound philosophical decision. (Stangrom, 46-47)
B. When looking at the situation, I took a very sudden and strict choice that Ben should not receive a higher sentence than Bill because he did not do anything as close to as bad as what Bill had done. When looking at other reasons, Bill does not deserve more jail time however, because he did not do anything incorrect, his increase of testosterone levels will always be with him and he won’t be able to control it. However I do consider that Bill could have learned to control his extra testosterone levels and he could have controlled his anger towards the salesperson, but that is another question to consider differently. When asked the simple question should Bill receive lesser sentence then Ben? No, he should not have and I completely agree with this

He said they were his wife and child, and that he had to quickly get back to them. As he turned into Tenth Street from Pine Avenue he sped up. Mrs. McPherson said the ride was the fastest she had ever taken. As she was about to ask him to slow down she felt the car hit the train. She didn’t remember hearing any bells or whistles coming from the locomotive. All she could recall was almost going under the wheels of the train and then being thrown out. When she regained consciousness she was lying beside Mrs. Weilenman, who was dying in a huge pool of blood. Conductor J. E. Edwards of the Salt Lake train said the jitney seemed to rush right into the engine, though the train engineer blew the whistle as usual as he approached the Tenth Street crossing. After viewing the situation from many angles, a jury decided that had Mundy been driving at moderate speed he could have seen the train in time to stop his…

A field of ten horses burst out of the gates at full speed. This race is only 440 yards, it is a short one. Five Alive gets right into the lead right away and he does not give it up. He is the first one across the finish line and wins by a length. Milton and the family are ecstatic and race over to the win picture circle. They get their win picture with Five Alive and his jockey and collect their winnings. The whole family was in awe of how fast this horse seemed to be and how easily he won the race. This horse was amazing and the family adored him. He just kept winning all the races they put him in. The jockey who always road Five Alive in every race said that this was a truly amazing horse. He even said that there was this one race and they loaded Five Alive into the gates and he looked down to see that Five was sleeping. Sure enough, he was asleep in the starting gate. The jockey says I was tapping him in the neck and pulling on his ears to try and get him to wake up, and nothing. But when that starting gate opened he sprang out of it like he had not been sleeping at all. Five Alive even won that race. This horse had the biggest heart this family had ever seen. He loved to run more than anything, and that is hard to find in a horse (Burton).…
