Law enforcement personnel usually are the ones whom come into contact with the criminals first. Personnel under this component could be police officers, sheriffs or detectives. They are responsible for upholding the law, investigating the crime and apprehending the individual(s) responsible for the crime that was committed. They must be knowledgeable of the criminal’s rights from the moment of apprehension to the interrogation process. Private security can also fall under this component; they must stay within their jurisdiction. However, they still need to notify their local police department if a crime is being committed, they are able to detainee the suspect until police arrives at the scene.
