Three Main Components Of The Criminal Justice System

There are three main components under the criminal justice system: law enforcement, courts and institution based corrections. However, for this paper there are two more components that also interrelates with the criminal justice system which is community based corrections and private security. Without all the components of the criminal justice system the others do not work efficiency. Each of these components focus on the laws and dealing with criminals while they are being processed through the criminal justice system until they are proven innocent or upon completion of their sentencing for a crime in which they committed.
Law enforcement personnel usually are the ones whom come into contact with the criminals first. Personnel under this component could be police officers, sheriffs or detectives. They are responsible for upholding the law, investigating the crime and apprehending the individual(s) responsible for the crime that was committed. They must be knowledgeable of the criminal’s rights from the moment of apprehension to the interrogation process. Private security can also fall under this component; they must stay within their jurisdiction. However, they still need to notify their local police department if a crime is being committed, they are able to detainee the suspect until police arrives at the scene.
Once a criminal has been arrested and charged they will than be brought forward to the courts system to answer to the charges they are being accused of. The courts are to ensure
