How would life be different if no one ever took a mission to achieve their goals? Rudyard Kipling’s short story “Rikki-tikki-tavi” shows just how far people go to protect their loved ones. There are several factors that motivate people to undertake missions in life, such as saving a family when they are treated, escaping danger, or because of the desire to be wealthier. To begin with, Rikki-Tikki-tavi undertakes a mission in order to rescue his adopted family when they are attacked by deadly cobras. According to the text, Teddy and his mother rescued the mongooses after a flood washed him out of his home and away from his family, “‘Let’s take him in and dry him. Finally, the minors in “CALL OF THE KLONDIKE” decided to undertake a mission in order to become rich during a time when many people were struggling to get by. For example, it states that when many Americans were just barely able to pay their bills and afford food, the idea of striking it rich was a very desirable idea, “At a time when many Americans were either out of work or earning low wages, the prospect of striking it rich proved irresistible” (Meissner and Richardson 3). The lives of the the minors were not very good lives; they were barely able to make their payments.It was because of this reason that the miners were so desperate for money that they decided to leave their homes and set off to find gold.In addition to this, some people would come back from the Klondike with so much gold that they had to think of creative ways to carry it, “Thousands of people in the public square watched the weather-beaten and hardy adventures stagger into the express office with sacks of gold, gold in blankets, in oil cans, and even moccasins” (Meissner and Richardson 2). After the people who were barely getting by saw all of the gold that these men were carrying, their desire became inevitable.Since their desires were inevitable they would quit their jobs by the dozen to go and join the gold rush desperately hoping to become wealthier. For this reason, the people during this time were desperate for that inevitably desirable gold, that they were willing to go to extremes in order to get it. To conclude, people are motivated by many different things to undertake missions. These reasons can be many, like Rikki-Tikki-tavi undertaking a mission to save his family. Or Farah Ahmedi taking on a mission to get her and her mother to safety. And finally, the minors in the Klondike jumped into a mission so that they could achieve wealth. All in all, life becomes much more desirable and exciting when people undertake
