Time Enough For Drums Sparknotes
In the book, Time Enough For Drums, there were many characters. Such as: Jemima Emerson, John Reid, Rebekah Emerson, Daniel Emerson, James Emerson, Sarah Emerson, and Lucy. The character that seemed to catch my eye the most is Jemima Emerson. My character, Jemima Emerson, is stubborn, loving or caring, and restless. Jemima is stubborn because at the beginning of the book, John Reid shows up to greet Jemima and Daniel, he has a talk with Daniel about how she always lies in order to get her way. “Jem said-” “Jem lied. A practice she’s been known to indulge into her own way, to get her own way.” (Page 5.)
Jemima Emerson can be stubborn at times, but she can also be loving, or caring. At more close to the end of the story, Jemima was talking

Jim Steven’s poem “Schizophrenia” depicts a story of immense loss and hopelessness that overcomes many homes. It is all too ordinary to hear about a father abandoning his family, a mother who is broken and feels defeated, and the children who have suffer through it all in fear and the overwhelming feeling of abandonment. Feelings such as those found in the preceding sentence are found throughout Jim Steven’s poem “Schizophrenia”. The poem reflects the conflicts that occur within the house. However, the crisis that is occurring within the family is addressed indirectly rather than directly, it is addressed through personifying the house. By personifying the house in every facet, “Schizophrenia” reveals the reality of the family’s relationships, or lack thereof.…

Jemima Emerson had many qualities about her, but one quality that popped out to me is being intelligent. Throughout the novel she was very intelligent such as when she kept the pemmican that Canoe gave her. Every time she went to Grandfather Emerson's house, Canoe would give Jemima some pemmican, a dried buffalo meat with dried cranberries, and Jemima would keep it upstairs in a small chest in her room. This plays a big role in the upcoming chapters when the Hessians invade the Emerson's house and tells Lucy and Jemima to go upstairs and stay there. They did and ate the pemmican Jemima kept in her chest when they were hungry. The foreshadowing from the book, “Someday, if the British ever came to Trenton, I would have it, for it was an emergency ration. And then, whatever else happened, we wouldn't be hungry.”(Rinaldi 64) shows how intelligent Jemima is.…

When the poem starts, the narrator urges the drums and bugles to play their music loudly and powerful, so it bursts through doors and windows into schools and churches. He even urges the instruments to disturb newlyweds and farmers. Then, as if on repeat, he once again urges the drums and bugles to play, except he describes their sound hoping it will reach across the city. He wants it to keep people up at night and keep them from working during the day. If people chose to ignore it and carry on with their business, the instruments must play even louder and wilder. Then once again, he tells the instruments to play even more powerfully, except this time they should not stop playing for any conversation or explanation. He urges the drums and bugles to not pay attention to anyone no matter what they are doing and tells the music to recruit men into the military, regardless what their mothers and children say. Finally, he urges the instruments to play so loud and powerful that it shakes the support beams that lie under the dead.…

Jem Finch is a three-dimensional character with symbols of success, virtue and an adverse personality in To Kill a Mockingbird. For example, in the beginning of the book, Jem was aggravated by the then taunting Dill Harris (a young visitor to Maycomb) so that Jem would touch the house of Radley. By touching the Radley house, he proved that he was not afraid and could take on any challenge. When such predicaments come Jem's way he will usually be able to make the best of them successfully. In addition, Jem will lash out in complete contempt for a wrong against his moral conscience, such as Mrs. Dubose slinging blasphemy at Jem's father. A good character must have a sense of morality to defend what is believed to be right, and Jem has this emblematic realism. But, a life-like character must have their weaknesses; and he displayed that on account of Mrs. Dubose's harsh words.…

Jem represents the idea of bravery throughout the novel, and his definition of bravery changes as he grows older. At the beginning of the novel, Jem’s idea of bravery is simply touching the Radley house. It was a dare and he’d never declined on in his life. As the story progresses Jem learns a lot about bravery from Atticus with the Tom Robinson case. Jem’s most courageous act is when the mob confronts Atticus at the jail, determined to kill not only Tom but also Atticus, if necessary. Jem refuses to obey his father for the first time in his life. Scout says,” in the midst of this strange assembly, Atticus stood trying to make Jem mind him. ‘I aint going; was his steady answer” (Lee 153). It was very brave of Jem to disobey his Atticus; it had to take a lot.…
