Timothy Murphy Research Paper
My choice for this semester’s congressional biography assignment is Representative Timothy Murphy from Pennsylvania’s 18th Congressional District. Born in 1952 in Cleveland, Ohio to a blue-collar family with ten other siblings, Tim knew the meaning of hard work and manual labor growing up, as he held various jobs on farms helping with upkeep and other related tasks. He attended Wheeling Jesuit University where he achieved his bachelor’s degree, and then Cleveland State University where he studied to attain a master’s degree in clinical psychology. Once he realized that he wanted to take his education even a step further, he attended the University of Pittsburgh to study and receive his Ph.D. in psychology (About Tim – Tim Murphy). After he graduated from Pitt, he went on to work at several local area hospitals, specializing in psychology dealing with child and family treatment and also started up his own private practice. He went on to author two award-winning books “The Angry Child” and “Overcoming Passive-Aggression”. In the past, he has served as an associate professor at Pitt in his …show more content…
Drawing from my personal experiences with him, I remember him mentioning that in the few hours of free time he may have to himself in a week, he thoroughly enjoys playing his acoustic guitar. He is a very gentle yet persuasive and succinct speaker and truly cares about his community that he represents. He has a twitter @RepTimMurphy (Rep. Tim Murphy), and an account on medium.com @Tim.Murphy (Rep. Tim Murphy – Medium) where he also posts related political news that he is involved
