Titanic David R Slavitt Analysis

The poem that I read was “Titanic.” The poet of this poem is David R Slavitt, who is a writer, poet, translator, and the author of over 100 books. When I first read the title of the poem, I remembered the incident on April 15, 2016 in which the RMS Titanic sank in the North Atlantic Ocean after colliding with iceberg during its maiden voyage. The poem reveals that due to the popularity of the Titanic, not many people would pass up the chance to passage on the ship. During the voyage, people having the best moments of their life, until they hit the iceberg and all fell into the ocean. I believe that anyone can reach the level of death at any moment of their life, whether they are having the best or worst moment of their life. The author’s use of shifts support the universal truth that anyone can reach the level death whether they are having the best or the worst moment of their life. For example, the author says, “ To go down, We all go down, mostly alone. But with crowds of people, friends, servants, well fed, with music, with lights!
For example, the poet states,” To go down...We all go down mostly alone.” This statement shows that everyone might be enjoying their time on the shp together, but when they fall, they all fall alone. I believe that it is quite unfortunate that people ended up falling while have a great time! In addition, the author also states that “ There will be the books and movies to remind our grandchildren who we were and how we died and give them a good cry.” This statement shows that these negative memories will be put into future books and movies to be shown to future generations. I feel that it is quite sad that future generations have to find out how their ancestors passed away. As you can see the use of euphemism supports the universal truth that a human’s life could change at any moment,
