Within the video entertainment industry, Netflix’s biggest competitor is Blockbuster, as it remained the global leader in the industry in 2010 c-99). However, the firm faces intense competition in the home entertainment industry due to the broad range of technologies and channels of distribution (Appendix B-4). Netflix is in direct competition with cable companies and VOD streaming services such as Wal-Mart’s acquisition of Vudu, which enabled the delivery of entertainment content directly to Internet-connected TVs imposes a threat. The competition is further intensified by the availability of video streaming websites such as Amazon Video-on-Demand, Apple’s iTunes and Hulu. Many of these competitors have greater brand recognition, larger customer bases, and greater financial stabilities and resources (Appendix B-7). The related pricing strategy, quality of experience and service level of its competitors may adversely impact Netflix ability to attract and retain subscribers. Therefore, buyers have a strong level of power and could easily shift their preferences from Netflix to rival companies, thereby imposing a further threat to Netflix’s profitability. Moreover, if excessive numbers of subscribers switch their services to competitors, Netflix may need to incur higher marketing expenditures to attract new subscribers, thus business results may be adversely affected. Currently, Netflix employed a subscription-based business model in which it acquired its video content from movie studios and distributors through direct purchase, revenue-sharing agreements and licensing. Therefore, its suppliers such as Universal Studios,…

    3. Argentine cable TV marked lagged in behind US market by almost a decade: cable TV penetration barely reached 50%, subscription growth rates approached 60-70% in selected areas. Also, the market was only beginning to consolidate around 4 major players – more than 50% of the market was controlled by a thousand of smaller operators. Although Buenos Aires was relatively more mature market, other regions and provinces presented lucrative opportunities. Telephone, satellite, and other adjacent markets had untapped future opportunities. So far, emerging Argentine promised much brighter prospects for cable TV companies than saturating US.…

The most popular technology that Comcast has created is Xfinity. This product allows for on-demand television and internet access. The combination of cable, internet, and telephone services has allowed them to surpass fifty million customers (O’Shea, 2012).With millions of users, this is where they make the majority of their money. One of the negative aspects of Comcast within the past year is that they have been losing thousands of customers through other products like Netflix. Because of this, they have recently exposed a new product that should gain back all of the customers they lost. “Comcast has launched a new store that enables US Xfinity TV customers to buy movies and TV shows. Titles purchased through the new Xfinity On Demand store belong to a user, and can be streamed as many times as they wish on their TV, computer, or mobile device” (McCormick, 2013). This new advancement in their services will keep them on top of other competitors such as DirecTV and Netflix.…

The HBO broadcasting network debuted my new favorite TV series Game of Thrones in April 17, 2011, which is based off the author George R.R Martin’s novels “Game of Thrones”. Since the first premiere of the fantasy driven drama series: resembling closely with medieval era, I instantly become a fan. Aside from the memorable characters, which oftentimes leads one to develop some form of attachment and then left with the unbearable shock due to well-known bloodlust of surprise executions gives more of reason to tune into the show. I would describe this show as truly unique where nothing is ever expected to be anticipated. It hold’s no true connection or trends to past popular shows, which makes it, stand out from the rest.…

1.) Berkey & Gay Furniture uses quite a few different methods to play on consumer's anxieties and prejudices. They infer that they are a way to look above, “Malucios” or those breaking the prohibition act during that time period. The furniture store plays on parents fears for their children and creates a link between keeping their children out of trouble with the law by having a lavishly furnished house. This link was not an easy gap to bridge, but they did a good job reasoning that if a younger person who is most susceptible to the lure of restricted alcohol is unashamed of his home, he will chose staying home to entertain guests rather than venture out. Parents are made to think that if their child has a home that is, “embarrassing,” to them, they will go to places like, “Malucios.”…

Media fragmentation is defined as “a trend to increasing choice and consumption of a range of media in terms of different channels such as web and mobile and also within channels, for example more TV channels, radio stations, magazines, more websites. Media fragmentation implies increased difficulty in reaching target audiences” (Chaffey, 2007). This is clearly a way of further breaking up media industries to create more choices. According to the University of Syracuse Convergence Center website, media convergence can be defined as “the coming together, into a single application or service, of information content from sound broadcasting, telephony, television, motion pictures, photography, printed text, and money” (2009). This is clearly a consolidation of media industries in order to meet specific demands created by specific consumers. These are two different scenarios that share a unique relationship. One will eventually lead to the other. The presence of one is the direct result of the other. However, which one leads? This is the digital media/entertainment industry’s casual dilemma .Which comes first? The different digital media/entertainment industries have all shown these two conditions at some time in their existence: the never ending cycle. Media/entertainment industries are under constant change and constant pressure to keep up with both technological advances and shifts in consumer behaviors. In order to…

This shows that many more people have access to binge watching. Also, might be headed in the direction of encountering the addiction. For example, the online streaming company, Cisco: “Cisco, a networking company, reckons nearly 1m minutes of video will cross the internet every second by 2018” (“Video in Demand”). As the years go by, the number of minutes of video is going to rapidly increase. As technology advances, so will the number and amount of people that have new technology. Many say that using an online streaming company to watch shows is much more efficient than waiting each week for a new show to come out and have “nothing” to do for the rest of the week. This is just this generation. This generation is so obsessed with online streaming, the big companies have gained thousands, if not. Millions of new audience. This proves that because more viewers and signed up for more online streaming companies, it means more people are accessible to binge…
