We came to an understanding that Arthur is a shy and innocent character who maybe does not experience the world like the rest of Maycomb. We must acknowledge his act of courage as they are important to the town of Maycomb but misunderstood as the value he holds are misjudged. His latent ability created rumors of him being the scariest person in the world without even meeting him face to face as he is finally seen by Scout as he is holding Jem by the shoulders unconscious. As Scout explains the fight at the forest she "…, I half pointed to the man in the corner, but brought my arm down quickly lest Atticus reprimand me for pointing" (Lee 362). For example, Arthur has always been there for Jem and Scout as he is risking future attention created from the town by covering Scout with a blanket as Miss Maudie's how is being burned down, and when Mr.Ewell attacked Jem and Scout as they were leaving the play, Arthur was willing to sacrifice his own comfort knowing him saving Jem and Scout would cause rumors. Thus, leaving the house and being in the presence of people other than his brother takes a lot of courage for Arthur because he is so used to being shut up in his house and not encountering the outside world. The hatred, difficulty, struggle, danger, pain and test of fearlessness led these characters to create a representation of courage. The author Harper Lee, displays true courage as standing up for what one believes in even when it means risking something
