Perseverance is shown in the book To Kill a Mockingbird. This book was written by Harper Lee and its setting is in Maycomb, Alabama during the late 1920’s. Atticus Finch is one of the main characters in this story and he shows a lot of perseverance. He is the only lawyer in this town and he was given a very tough case that had to do with a black man being accused of raping a white women. He decided to take this case knowing that they’ll find any piece of evidence to use it against who he was defending. Perseverance was shown here because he had much faith in the possibility that his client was innocent.
Not only does Atticus show perseverance; however, John F. Kennedy showed perseverance as well. His presidency was during the time that Martin Luther King Jr. was fighting for Civil Rights. Even though others thought he was wrong, he stood by what was right. He also tried to get us through the Vietnam War and The Cuban Missile Crisis. He once said, “...my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country.” That famous quote embodies perseverance. Because of his faith, we were able to believe in the possibilities of a better tomorrow.
