To This Day Poem

Bully victims are between 2 to 9 times more likely to consider suicide than non-victims, according to studies by Yale University. Bullying is an epidemic that is affecting our society in the worst of ways hurting our youth and a disgusting disease that has plagued our world. Shane Koyczan is a spoken word poet, he created the poem "To This Day" about bullying and how to overcome it and fight. He uses text features like an anecdote to build a relationship with him and the audience, or the organization of the stories he presents to increase the credibility, and when he uses repetition he is enhancing his point.

In the poem he uses an anecdote, the anecdote tells us about his experience with bullying. It tells the story of how he got his nickname they bullied him with “Pork-Chop”. “When I was a kid I used to think that pork chops and karate chops Were the same thing…” This helps the speaker prove his point that we can fight bullying, the anecdote builds a relationship with the audience by when he states that he was bullied he can relate to the audience that was
