Toddler Teaching Philosophy
Introduction
I believe that each child, infant, toddler and older, are each unique and has the potential to leave their own mark on the world. My philosophy would be to provide a stimulating atmosphere in which infants and toddlers can grow and mature in many areas including emotionally, physically, socially, and intellectually while in a safe environment. This environment will not only be safe, it will allow children’s curiosity to direct their learning, promote respect for things and people, and help the teacher guide the children.
Caregiver Role
As a caregiver, part of my role is to foster the love of learning and self discovery in infants and toddlers. To do this, meaningful opportunities that are relevant to a child’s life and interests need to be provided. I believe that it is important to provide activities that will encourage infants and toddlers to explore individually and with each other and their teachers. I also believe that it is important to help foster a sense of trust in children at an early age and encourage them to be an explorer and self learner by providing an environment that is safe, cognitively challenging and nurturing emotionally. A caregiver should allow time for children to explore individually and with a group, have time for uninterrupted play, and provide limits and expectations that are consistent and clearly defined.
Infant/Toddler Curriculum
The curriculum for infants and toddlers would have a loose structure that incorporates various activities to stimulate development in the areas of sensory, creativity, language, and motor play. Ideally, I would have the children learn about themselves and the world around them through explorations, social interactions, and play. These experiences would be safe, stimulating and supportive while promoting each child’s individual development and optimal potential. The curriculum would help to enhance a child’s sense of identity, self-esteem, independence, trust, and responsibility in

The National Association for the Education of Young Children represents the early childhood profession. Their book on developmentally appropriate practice and accreditation criteria define quality programs for young children. Developmentally appropriate environments help children develop in all areas—physical, social, creative, emotional, and cognitive. No one area of development is more important than another in the early years of a child’s life. It is often not possible to separate children’s development in one area from another. For example, as a child masters a physical skill such as climbing, self-esteem grows. The new physical skill makes it possible for the child to learn more about the world and to interact with friends.…

Providing a positive sense of self will allow the child to construct positive relationships with peers around their environment. During the beginning years of life the main environment for the infant/toddler will be home and their program. However, as they get older they will need this skill if they want to foster other relationship with people. Caregiver need to start by analyzing their classroom because there are many ways that they can modeling cultural diversity. The classroom should have different models of diversity like puppets, rugs, art, food, pictures, books, toys, and more since this is the space the child spend most of their day (Santora, 2012).. For children to be able to generate positive attitude or a fair sense of diversity all caregivers need to teach how to value and respect diversity within their environment (Santora, 2012). All caregivers means anyone that plays a role in the child's daily routine because everyone has an impact on their life. The positive diversity encounters that the child has within their program will increase their sense of self. Children will then be able to create and internalize same encounters outside their program. "Young children experience their world as an environment of relationships, and these relationships affect virtually all aspects of their development" (National Scientific Council on the Developing Child, 2004). Once they grow up they will be able to become a member of a community because they are aware of their vital role and will generate positive relationship with…
