Tokyo Essay

In this essay I will be talking about the city of Tokyo. Tokyo is well known and is very interesting with many great attractions and a huge economy. Tokyo is the capital of Japan and is the most densely populated cities of the country. Since ancient times, the city has been one of the most densely populated cities of the country. Tokyo is the largest metropolitan area in the world. The Tokyo metropolis was formed in 1943. Tokyo was originally a fishing village named Edo. Tokyo isn’t just a city, it is a megacity. Tokyo is great now but just 400 years ago this global powerhouse was little more than a backwater castle town on the shores of the muddy Sumida River. Over the past century it has been twice virtually annihilated. It almost first collapsed during the 1923 Great Kanto earthquake and subsequent firestorm, and again in 1945 after the devastation of the Allied bombings. Each time it has risen like a phoenix from the ashes, reborn in an ever-more-modern reflection of itself. Tokyo know shines and is a great city to be a part of.

The political economy of Tokyo is very immense and the city revolves around the people, environment and jobs. Though it occupies only 0.6% of the total area of Japan, the population density is nearly 5,655 persons per square kilometers, thereby making is one of the most populated cities of the world. As on October 1st, 2003 the population of the city stood at 12.369 million. Tokyo has the largest metropolitan economy in the world. Tokyo has a total GDP of US$1.479 trillion in. As of 2009, 51 of the companies listed on the Global 500 are based in Tokyo, almost twice that of the second-placed city (Paris). Tokyo is a major international finance center. It houses the headquarters of several of the world's largest investment banks and insurance companies, and serves as a hub for Japan's transportation, publishing, and broadcasting industries. During the centralized growth of Japan's economy

Didion claims the Santa Ana winds aren’t just in Santa Ana, but also in Switzerland, and are very perilous with a strong disruption in normal human nature, suggesting a mechanistic behavior. Through her use of apprehensive diction, eerie imagery, and suspenseful syntax, Didion depicts the winds as a threatening entity.…

Military Prospective: (7December1941 1800hrs) “Tora, Tora, Tora” were the words of the Japanese Commander upon the attack on Pearl Harbor, explained the Sergeant Major(Sgt Maj).I was a Private First Class in the Marines I was stationed on U.S.S Enterprise as a pilot for the Grumman F4F-3 Wildcats. Immediately after the rumors were leaked, curiosity got the best of these young and brave soldiers. The mess deck grew silent as the Sgt Maj explained what happened on the morning of 7December. “At approximately 748hrs (Hawaiian time), the first wave of the 353 fighter, bomber, and torpedo planes attacked Pearl Harbor. It was said that the Japanese chose to attack on a Sunday was because they believed Americans would be more relaxed and thus less alert on a weekend. When the Japanese Aerial Commander called out, ''Tora, Tora, Tora.'' (which meant Tiger, Tiger, Tiger), it was a message to the entire Japanese Navy informing them they had caught the Americans by surprise.” Sgt Maj stopped to sip a drink of his water. “Who planned this attack?”, asked one of the Privates. “Rumors said his name was Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto who initiated the plan the attack on Pearl Harbor but it was a Commander under the name of Minoru Genda who carried out the mission. The mission was first named ''Operation Hawaii'' but later changed to ''Operation Z''. 353 Japanese aircraft took-off of 6 carriers.” After the news was spread, the soldiers ate in silence.…

In 1941, the attack on Pearl Harbor and the fall of Hong Kong led to the declaration of war between Canada and Japan. The sacrifice of 2,000 Canadian soldiers in the invasion of Hong Kong raised fear and rage against Japanese on the west coast. Along with several government policies which provide room for the entrenched racism, rationality is dissolved into violence and repression which pressures the government for the final detention. Japan was allied with Britain in the First World War, thus the attack on Pearl Harbor was undoubtedly a huge shock to Canadian people. What they found behind the attack is sneaking and treacherous, which they believe as the trait embedded in the Japanese descent. Therefore, the Japantown seems to be the nest…

I stopped for a moment just to observe the people in the streets. Many of them were scurrying to get somewhere, talking on the phone, listening to music, and ignoring one another as if they were the only ones here. The men were all dressed in their suits and ties and the women’s high heeled shoes could be heard striking the ground very swiftly one after the other. The enormous skyscrapers tower over me and I can no longer feel the summer sun beating down on my skin. The architecture of each building is so eye-catching and differs from one another. Some appear to be made of all glass, others are more vintage looking, and some even have striking statues attached to the buildings. The streets seem more congested than the side walks. The continuous sounds of cars honking at one another pierce through my ears, and the bright yellow taxis are so overpowering to the eyes.…

The reconstruction era of 19th Century provided a platform for the civil rights movement that followed in the 20th Century and created history. The aim of the reconstruction plan was to provide economic and racial equality to all the American citizens by abolishing slavery and ensuring the basic human rights to all citizens. However, due to the social and political structure of the period, many were skeptical of these policies and so the reconstruction program failed. Nevertheless, the spirit of freedom still lived among the blacks and so the failure of reconstruction plans inspired them even more to speak up for their rights which in turn resulted in the civil rights movement that followed during the 1950s and 1960s. Reconstruction gave the black people a taste of freedom which they never had before and this gave them hopes of a better future. With the failure of the reconstruction plans their hopes were once again dismissed. And perhaps this gave them determination to fight those who were opposed to their freedom.…
