When our class visits Washington, D.C, it will be important for us to be a positive and sophisticated group of 8th graders. That’s important because we want to represent our state and country for tourists that come to America. We want them thinking that America is a wonderful place to be and the 8th grade class from Iowa is respectful and appropriate.

Their gloves are wet for one reason and that’s to get a better grip on the rifle. The shoes are dress shoes but with some differences. The shoes have a flat sole so it gives the soldier an appearance of a smoother and more uniform walk. There is what’s called a “horseshoe” that’s a steel plate to prevent wear.
A Tomb Guard has so much commitment and dedication to guarding the tomb to protect the remains of some of our countries unidentifiable soldiers. It was reported that of the soldiers refused to leave the tomb during Hurricane Isabel. That is commitment. He was commanded to leave and take shelter but the sentinel decided to remain guarding. That is one of the ways America shows respect for these fallen soldiers.
To guard this tomb soldiers go through extreme measures and time to show the Tomb’s importance. Representing our school is a task that should be done right, with respect and thoughtfulness. While researching the Tomb of the Unknown soldier I have learned a lot about what it takes to become a guard. I have also learned about the unknown soldiers that represent many lives lost during war. I believe I would be a good person to help with the wreath ceremony because I know I would show the respect that the guard and the soldiers that lost their lives
