Toni The Superhero By R. D. Base
Toni The Superhero is a refreshing children’s book written by R.D. Base and was illustrated by Debbie Hefke. This book was originally published recently on March 27, 2018. Toni is described and illustrated as a superhero who wears a superhero costume, cape and an eye mask with an extraordinary power, however, he does ordinary things profusely such as playing with friends, swimming, eating, sleeping, doing chores and other leisurely activities that an ordinary kid does on a daily basis.

R.D. Base is a proud mother of three lovely children so it is without a doubt that the author got her inspiration for writing a children’s literature from her beloved children. Truthfully the book was very creative, the book was very fitting for the author’s intended audience that are children with ages ranging from zero to four years old. It is something that children in that age would love to grab and read. The short narrative story on every page is fathomable or comprehensible for the young ones, and the fantastic illustration also helps the children who still don’t know how to read grasp and understand the story.

The character that was established by the writer was ideal and appropriate for a children’s book, it was a good idea to opt a superhero as the protagonist or the main character of the story for as we all know kids and even the adults yearn to become a superhero (including me). Moreover, it is undeniable that a superhero is someone that every child adores and idolizes to the extent that they try to imitate the actions of the hero. This results to kindle and inspire every audience of the book to do good deeds like

The idea of superheroes is surprisingly well fitting in this era, as it lies during a time of lies, anxiety and propaganda. Superheroes represent a symbol of hope that citizens were able to look up to, when normal humanity had devastated itself in the destruction of war. The helplessness and paranoia of the time had influenced not only the people of the time, but also the literary works.…

In Judith Ortiz Cofer’s short story “Volar,” a girl who is a huge fan of comic books dreams of being a Superhero but realizes her reality. Whether a child or an adult, most of us have our dreams; however, not all wishes become true. The narrator, the girl, begins her story describing how much she loves comic books such as Legion of SuperHeroes and Supergirl so much that a pile of her books is high as she is. She smoothly continues with her repeated dream in which Cofer vividly conveys the image that provides the reader with her strong sense of purpose.…

There are perhaps no days of our childhood we lived so fully as those we spent with a favorite book.” This is a famous quote said by Marcel Proust. Books over the centuries have had an influential impact on the lives of many. Arguably, there are none more influential than children’s books. Children’s books contain important life lessons and teach many children the basic values they will hold for the remainder of their lives. Examples of the best range from the well-known Dr. Seuss books, to the always-popular Winnie the Pooh books. Although those are historically popular, The Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister, is one that should be kept in mind. With it’s enticing illustrations, simple and descriptive context, and lesson it portrays, the children’s book The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister should be considered for a spot on the “Top 100 Children’s Books” list.…

Toni the Superhero written by R. D. Base and illustrated by Debbie Hefke is a charismatic and charming portrayal of a young boy who lives and enjoys a well rounded life. The use of simple, direct sentences accompanied by an explanatory illustration makes it ideal for young readers who usually gravitate towards the more colorful images rather than an excess use of words. The only detraction was that the book traveled along at the same pace throughout and at the end, readers were only offered a perfunctory statement. That however does not take away from the simplistic brilliance that is this children’s book. One of the main highlights was that the book was based on a black boy, Toni and written by a black female author who is also a mother.…

By critical analysis it can become a very complicating task to define a child’s book. There are many fundamental definitive factors that can be found in books that have been written for Children. For instance, if we take the example of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe C.S Lewis 1950 . Universally it is recognised as a book for children. The sound repetition makes it easier to memorize the stories. When the child can remember the words they feel like they are reading. Both child and parents know they only memorized it, but the child's confidence is boosted, and then next time the challenge of reading will be easier. The illustrations in the stories also help children learn to read. Most stories have made up words to follow the wacky rhyming patterns. These words can often not be understood by child or parent making the child, again, feel confident about reading. The illustrations can help the children figure out the word they do not know.In all of his works the illustrations create metaphors. Some of the best examples are back to his famous story, And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street. When the child is traveling to school, he is carrying a large book that looks uncomfortable. This represents the child not enjoying…

“It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no its Superman!” For decades comic book characters such as Superman, The Incredible Hulk, Batman, and Wonder Woman have captured the imaginations of American children and adults alike. “Superheroes,” they have been coined. But these figures only exist in our imaginations. Batman is not really there to save us from villains such as the Joker and the Riddler. Because these heroes are fictional, we are left without real life heroes… or are we? The answer is clearly no. Heroes are all around us. They can be courageous, intelligent, strong or daring, but heroes to me are selfless and brave.…

Throughout time, people have often looked at ancient Greek stories as the embodiment of the traditional “hero’s journey,” and by doing so, we often forget that most books, TV shows, and movies around us today are still centered around the traditional Greek tale. In 2014, a film directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams was released: Big Hero 6 (“Big”). This film is a prime example of how the traditional hero’s journey is still used in modern culture. Big Hero 6 is a futuristic film about a boy named Hiro in a town called San Fransokyo. It follows his journey as he leaves a life of bot-fighting to apply for a nearby robotics college that his brother attends.…

When looking at a story, does every story have a superhero? Not in this story. The prisoner (condemned man) was a Hindu. “He had a thick, sprouting moustache, absurdly too big for his body, rather like the moustache of a comic man on the films.” The prisoner even though he was weak he never backed down. Mentally he was strong. “He stood quite unresisting, yielding his arms limply to the ropes as though he hardly noticed what was happening.” The prisoner walked with confidence. “At each step his muscles slid neatly into place, the lock of hair on his scalp danced up and…

Aims: The aim of this assignment is to demonstrate and plan a story to read to a group of children aged 2 and half to 4. I chose this age group because this is the group I work with on a daily bases from 9:30 to 12:30 five days a week. I am picking a story called “Oh Dear” by Rod Campbell who is a Scottish writer and illustrator of several popular children's books including the classic lift-the-flap board book “Dear Zoo”. As it is a story that helps the children with learning the different animals on the farm and also encourages the children to use their imaginations as they lift up the different flaps in the book to see what is behind them. Which Maria Montessori says “Imaginative teaching materials are the heart of the process”. All of Rod Campbell’s “books have simple text often with repeating phrases which is ideal for pre-readers” and will also Help the children with langue and intellectual skills. “The child proceeds at his own pace in an environment controlled to provide means of learning” -Maria Montessori. this book also helps the children physically as they have to get up to lift up the flaps on the book “movement is therefore the essential of life education cannot be conceived of ad a means to moderate or worse to inhibit movement; it should only function as an aid to a better expenditure of energy whilst allowing it to develop normally” -Maria Montessori pg 102 discovery of a child. “The aim of the children who persevere in their work with an object is certainly not to “learn”; they are drawn to it by the needs of their inner life, which must be recognized and developed by its means.” – Maria Montessori pg 120 discovery of a child. To develop their attention spans…
