When Should a Tooth Be Removed?
There are three main reasons a tooth should be removed: infection, gum disease, and crowding in the mouth.
Infection – When tooth decay goes unchecked, the center of the tooth (called the pulp) can become infected with bacteria. If caught in the early stages, it can be treated with antibiotics, a filling, or root canal therapy. But if the tooth cannot be saved, it needs to be removed.
