This Chapter presents the: (a) Background of the Study, (b) Statement of the problem, (c) Research Paradigm, (d) Scope and limitation of the study, (e) Significance of the study, and, (f) Definition of terms.
Background of the Study
The province of Iloilo in the Western Visayas region is known for its La Paz Batchoy, Biscocho, Boneless Bangus, Pancit Molo, the vine products of Barotac Viejo, Bamboo products of Maasin, Abaca products of Janiuay , Hablon products of Miagao,Oton and Dueñas, and Jusi products of Arevalo. Iloilo is the home of many popular and ancient heritages in the Philippines like the Jaro, Miagao and Molo cathedrals, the first Golf course in the Philippines located in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo and it is where the first foreign firm was located. It is considered as one of the most productive cities in the country having many globalization-ready roads and infrastructures. The city is also the site wherein the 23rd ASEAN Summit will be held. Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog led the improvements in the city wherein he was considered as one of the best mayors in the Philippines and was nominated for the World Mayor of year 2014.
Year 2015, the ASEAN Integration will be affecting the food and beverage businesses in the city of Iloilo. The city’s local food and beverage businesses in order to withstand the competition of the integration, should meet the ASEAN standard for Tourism in the Food and Beverage sector. The ASEAN standard covers the criteria to be fulfilled in fitting the businesses inhabiting the Philippines for the next years. In order to promote free flow of the economy, all countries and states will open its market with least or without any boundaries.
