"Education is Not a Luxury" by Stephen Joel Trachtenberg debates that the tradition agrarian calendar is no longer necessary to society being that civilization has changed from an agricultural society into a technology era. Trachtenberg suggest a lengthening of the school year to eight months out of a year and a school day starting at 9 and ending at 5. Society’s little Respect for the educational institutions, causes students to not take school seriously because they're only there for a short period in a day and a few months in a year. Extending the school day can improve education in many ways.by creating an 'atmosphere of learning' Trachtenberg mentions would help students understand how important their education really is, teacher would benefit also, Given the chance to be more flexible with their plans and add creativity to their lessons; which can help student process information more efficiently. Adding extracurricular activities to a school day can also impact students because they have the chance to be creative and give them a sense of connection with their school, community, and the world
With time students would get to properly process information, get more attention from teachers for help with struggling topics. If students genuinely understand the information they were obtaining it would mostly be easier to recall, cutting the amount of students in remedial classes in college ,and The extra attention that would be given to student students shows them how important they are and how critical others are taking their education.
