Child care is one of the major issues. Children in year-round school have more frequent breaks and parents do not get time off from work to be with them. Therefore, those parents who have young children have to find a sitter or daycare to watch their child. Another disadvantage is that it may cost the school more money to operate year-round. For example, most school corporations end around May and resume around August, those months the air-conditioner is not being used. Year-round schooling would be in session during those months where the temperatures are increased, causing the school to run the air-conditioner more…

One of the major benefits of year-round school is that it aids students in a way that they can increase their overall grade. Students are less likely to forget what they have previously learned in school due to the lack of large breaks in the school year. Most importantly, there is more time. More time for school means more time can be devoted to each unit or section of material a teacher is covering. Less pressure to learn information in two weeks or even a month can help students apply their new knowledge to the long-term memory and gives more time for student to comprehend ideas in a more complex manor.…

There are many approaches that might interest you about year-round schools, but here are three that I find interesting. The first fact about year-round school is that they have short breaks every so often. In the article Year Round School vs. Traditional Schedules in Public Schools it states, “...many schools are getting rid of the traditional summer vacation, yet are simultaneously providing students with more frequent and consistent breaks from school.” Since the traditional summer vacation of around 3 months is no longer essential some experts are saying that the traditional schools are not what is best for today’s children. The second fact about year-round school is that they have schedules that may very slightly. In the article it states, “...the most popular schedule is what’s called a 45-15 plan…”. Which means that children go to school for 45 days and then have 15 days off. The last fact about year-round school is that many states and places have taken part in the year-round…

Children need a long break so their minds are ready for the next year of school. Children might forget what they learn, but it leaves more room for their brains to learn more the next year. We would have less time to spend with family and friends also. It may sound logical but Dr Von Hippel has debunked this myth after completing an experiment. He states, “Students in “year-round” schools don't learn more than their peers in traditional nine-month schools... A sociologist at Ohio State University found that, over a full year, math and reading test scores improved about the same amount for children in year-round schools as they did for students whose schools followed a traditional nine-month calendar.” There's no academic improvement and on top of that many people believe that year round school is longer than a normal school which is also false. They have the same amount of days as a traditional nine-month high school however Instead they have “tracks”. So track 1 could have school for 3 weeks then they would have vacation for 3 weeks while track 2 has 3 weeks of school after coming back from vacation. This also limits who is seen by who every day if two people’s schedules do not cross. Public students should be given what's best for them. If year-round has no academic improvement then why should summer be taken away? At least summer benefits students with nutrients from the…

“Schools out!” The majority of schools in America stick to the traditional school year, attending class from early fall through the beginning of summer. End of the school year means the start of summer vacation for most students; over the years, summertime evolved into its own culture with specialized camps, family vacations, and little league games. While most would agree that children and even families love summer vacation, many are aware of its downfalls. One downfall is the difficulty students have retaining knowledge and information from the previous year. Typically, teachers spend the first six weeks of the new school year reviewing material from the last instead of moving on to the new material. The department of education has indicated the need for change. According to the Education Secretary Arne Duncan, President Barak Obama has called for a longer school year to help American students compete with students around the globe (Dessoff, 36). The future of America is in the hands of today’s youth. Students that attend year round schools are at an advantage over students that attend traditional schools in the area of knowledge retention and access to quality teaching staff.…

As seasons change, and the school year progresses, many students lose that “first day of school excitement” (I know that I do!) (parenthesis) that they once felt. So how do we regain that joy that once filled us? The answer is simple, year round school. Having school year round will enable students to expand their knowledge, decrease the time during which kids are idle when they tend to get into the most trouble, and reduce the stress levels of both teachers and students.…

One of the major points for year round schooling is that students would learn more because they would be in the classroom more often. This however, has been proven to be false, as a 2007 Ohio State University study stated that students in year-round schools do not learn more than their peers in traditional nine-month schools (Long). Schools with a year-round system often use it in an attempt to eliminate the lose of knowledge that can occur over the summer months, but this can also happen to students in year-round schools, as some have breaks that last over a month. This can be more than enough time for students to forget what they have learned. While the year-round schooling is often incorporated to help accommodate more students in schools that struggle with overcrowding, the change ends up making both teachers and parents struggle more than they would in a normal schedule. Year-round schooling would mean that the teachers would have to constantly be at work teaching a class of students, all year round, with little to no breaks. Parents would also have to be running their children around a lot more, especially during the summer…
