A Tragic Fall "Fair Is Foul And Foul Is Fair"(1.1.12) .The play begins with Macbeth as a brave, courageous and loyal soldier to the king. His bravery was described in:" but all's too weak, /for brave Macbeth-well he deserves that name/ disdaining fortune..." (1.2.15-17) And also in " Till he fac'd the slave,/ which ne'er shook hands, nor bade farewell to him,/ Till he unseam'd him from the nave to th'chaps/ and fix'd his head upon our battlements"(1.2.20-23) which indicates how courageously Macbeth fought for his country and ripped open the king of Norway from navel to jaw. However, since then Macbeth had to suffer from the guilt of killing Duncan and eventually Banquo. He had changed as a result of this; his evil deed caused him hallucination, and sleeplessness (insomnia). Then he began to slowly lose all his humanity. " I almost forgot the taste of fears; / The time has been, my senses would have cool'd / To hear a night-shrink and my fell of hair / Would at a dismal treatise rouse and stir / As life were isn't" (5.5.9-13) which indicates how fearless and careless he had become and in fact he is also surprised by this fact. In contrast to the beginning of the play where he loved lady Macbeth, he begins to lose feelings for her each day. Until he reaches a level that he had no longer care about her. " She should have died hereafter, / There would have been a time for such a word. / Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow…"(5.5.17-18) Which described how insensitive he had become, fearless and careless of everything even the death of his life love, lady Macbeth.
