Over the four previous classes we have discussed many factors that contribute to one’s leadership abilities. To put it up front I believe these past lessons have taught us what type of leader we are at the very moment as ROTC Cadets. Beginning with lesson 4, the overview was the need to develop future leaders with a sense of cultural awareness. The focal point being how our own culture or somebody else’s comes from “a system of shared values, beliefs, behaviors, and norms.” Transitioning to lesson 5 it was about analyzing the full ranges of the five leadership theories. Laissez Fair, management by exception: passive and active. The two major ones being transactional and transformational leadership. I concluded these leadership abilities are tied to how we lead. Cultural awareness is the first thing that came to mind when ADM McRaven was talking the munchkin group always coming in first place. “Nothing mattered but your will to succeed,” as leaders we can’t judge others on their cultural background. The Tedx video he talks about making decisions under the current situation. I can compare this to situational leadership. Depending on the situation is how a leader will react to it. “Confronted with changing conditions and a new environment, the old habits might not work.” A good summary to show how a leader will need
