Transgender Rights In America
A very true quote is, “‘When gender identity wins, women always lose’” (Gale). In the past few years, there has been a controversial issue over LGBT rights in America. Many have their reasons for being against letting transgenders enter that same bathroom, but others are all for the idea of that happening. In fact, there has already been incidents with transgenders raping, taking pictures, or even videoing other people using the bathroom or changing. If safety and privacy will be harmed (especially to women and children), then people should not be allowed to use any bathroom of their choice even if they are transgender. Women as well as children will be at a huge risk for their safety. If gender identity wins, that allows predators to come into the opposite sex bathrooms. Some students in high school express how they feel about sharing bathrooms and they don’t feel “that transgender people will be the ones committing crimes,” but allowing “these laws and orders will allow any guy who wants to enter” these female only spaces without being punished by law for doing ("How High School Students See the Transgender Bathroom Issue"). The student also points at that “if schools want to provide a gender-neutral restroom or space where transgender people can go, that is one thing,” but completing taking away “any place where girls can go and have privacy from men is a very bad policy” (“How High School Students See the Transgender Bathroom Issue”). This student is scared for their privacy as well as others. People might want to try pleasing transgenders, but by doing that, they are putting so much risk on women and children. Today in time, if someone were to allow a man, “based on only his claim to be a transgendered woman,” to have “unlimited access” to females’ rest rooms, locker rooms, changing rooms, showers, etc.” will make it very easy for men to sexually assault women and children” (Anderson). Men could easily pretend to be a transgendered woman just to get into the public area where women are.
