Trapped On An Island

“I shouted for help… Help! Help! Help! No answer, no response, not even a single voice, but only the hastening sounds of the twist. Wedged on an island, no hope, no happiness and no family, all alone with myself in a deserted island. The only thing I have is the seas surrounding me, the dry and humid sand, which was good for nothing. All I have left is a precious photograph of my blissful family; they maybe wondering and weeping to God, where I might be? It was thanks to that spine-chilling Captain Wordsworth, who crashed us into a huge and massive rock. He was the main trouble-maker, which led me to this desolated island. All I wanted was to get to my family, safely and peacefully. But that cruel and not trustworthy man has misled to a deserted and lonely island, where there’s no anticipation and where you can just perish. I just wished that I never was here. I am injured all over, from the top of my head to the tip of my toes. I’m just left impecunious, helpless, hopeless and abandoned; left like a dead dog to die in the island by the scorching sun.

I slowly get up on my knees to discover the land and journey that is front of me. My body bursting with pain, my bones screeching as I endeavour to rise. The sun’s potent rays, beaming down on me.

I glance at a queer shape. The sun’s emission shimmered of the figure which was getting closer and closer, unambiguous and then I see a sight of such a beautiful bird. As I ducked and let the animal go past me; I felt a little quiver. That was when I realized that this island was very extraordinary!

I shifted myself up to see the horizon. I saw a forest with massive trees right in front of me. I considered going into the woods and having a look around. But I was precarious if I would ever revisit the world again. I had no choice but to cross the threshold of the murky, humid forest, where I would either perish or endure.

As I stepped into the dark and gloomy jungle, I saw an attractive

The page following the book’s title depicts a scene at sea. The whole image is washed with a dark blue from the sky to the ocean, and the crashing waves convey a menacing journey has taken place. At the bottom of the page, if one looks closely, it is evident that the bottom of the wooden raft has been drawn but blends into the rest of the image. This inclusion of the raft changes the perspective of the image as the responder is now been positioned as if they were looking out from the raft, the place of the Man. An immediate bond has now been formed between the responder and the man, and for the rest of the text we continue to sympathise with him.…

As a child, I was raised my whole life in the country side. My mother and I had lived for years in a lonely shack at the edge of the small village we called home. At the very edge of the village was an eerie forest, a forest that seemed to beckon unwary fools into entering it. I was always told as a child to never go near the forest, especially at night. Some people say that a bear lives there, while others say that a serial killer lives there, and some even say that a monster lives there, either way the forest is always portrayed with death. I remember various occasions in which I would wake up for reasons unknown, only to find myself outside in my backyard staring at the edge of the forest, the soft moonlight caressing my bare skin, the crisp night air followed by the refreshing scent of grass. On one occasion I thought I heard a…

The island begins to as a utopia for the boys, ‘the shimmering water’ explores the island as being a paradise and an obvious place of beauty. However dark traits of the island start to become prominent which begins to open Golding’s theme of violence; the plane crash on the island is described as a ‘scar’. This implies that before this mark had been left, the island was perfect and untouched whereas now the arrival of the outside world has immediately destroyed its beauty. The use of the word ‘scar’ could also suggest the state in which the plane has arrived from; as the war was ongoing the use of the formidable word shows the ruin in which the world back home was in. Furthermore, this instantly reveals the purpose of the boys arrival on the island, the war has led them to be evacuated so even though the horrors of the island are yet to come, the irony of the barbaric actions back home is introduced.…

The waves crashed against the lone island once more. Ralph sat in a covert, huddling himself for warmth. He closed his eyes. Flashes of his comrade and friend, Piggy, filled his wandering mind. Ever since he had died, Ralph never stopped thinking about it. A brisk, cold wind shocked Ralph and he quickly stood. Dusk was drawing near, and his wounds from the other encountering boys had ceased to stop. Noises from the jungle northwest of him began to sound with the sound of chanting boys and the crackling of the fire that had been consuming the island. Frightened, Ralph ran to the beach hoping for an escape. All he could do was pray to God that something would save him – a ship, a plane, anything. But he looked up into the clear night and saw nothing. There was no choice but to run.…

It was full of life and flowers and bright. I thought that it would be gloomier. I was okay with it. It made me more happy and it made me feel lifted up. I also realized something. All of a sudden I could hear again. I had no idea why. I thought something was going on here, but I didn't know what. As the other people got off the flight, I followed them. I assumed they were going to look at Stonehenge too. It was a long and strenuous hike. Walking over tons of hills and in between trees. A little bit later all of a sudden there was a wide open grassland. It was something I had never seen before. The rolling hills were covered with green grass that went on for miles. It was beautiful. I was in shock. The small hills were filled with herds of sheep and a few cows scattered here and there. Long in the distance between two hills I saw stones. Although they looked small from far away, I knew they weren't. Everyone gathered their stuff and headed over. Every step of the way I became more excited.…

We were wanderers in an uncharted world, in a world that wore the aspect of an obscure planet. We could have thought of ourselves as being the first recipients of an ungodly gift, to be consumed by means of extreme suffering and unbearable misery. But suddenly, as we surged out of the trench, there would be a glimpse of coral reefs, of reaching seaweed stalks, a rupture of bubbles, a flurry of grey fins, a mass of teeth thrashing, of flesh ripping, of bodies darting, of eyes rolling, under the shroud of an opaque and alluringly macabre cloud. The submarine slowly labored forward along the periphery of an unfathomable frenzy.…

The island the boys are stranded on serves as a microcosm for wider society - a place far from civilization and free from adult supervision. The beauty of the island paradise the boys are stranded on is astounding. Golding quickly shows just how magnificent the island is; “(The lagoon) was clear to the bottom and bright with the efflorescence of tropical weed and coral.” As the boys explore the island its beauty is clear to them.…
