Tree Of Life By Winston Harris
All of the artwork at the James Wise Gallery were riveting; however, the particular piece of artwork I selected to write about stood out from the rest. The title of the piece is “Tree of Life”. Winston Harris, the artist of this piece, created the artwork by digital hand coloring. The first thing that caught my eyes were both vibrant and earthy colors within the piece. The second thing was all the different combinations of shapes throughout the piece. The third thing I noticed in the piece were all the lines going in every which way. Out of all the seven elements of art: line, shape, form, space, texture, value, and color, the elements color, shape, and line were the most apparent to me. The combination of three elements color, shape and line …show more content…
At the center of the piece, there is a tree with light pink swirls on top as the leaves and a dark brown and green stump below it. The difference in hues between the light pink shade and the dark green and brown shades compliment the artwork. Behind the tree, there’s an earth with the colors white, black, brown, purple and a little of yellow. In between the leaves of the tree and the top of the earth has a somewhat checkerboard look with the bright primary color of yellow and secondary orange. The combination of the warm and cool colors give me a happy and comforting feel. In the piece of art that I chose there is a wide variety of shapes making the objects within the artwork. The bottom of the tree trunk in the piece has three small circles as well as some triangles. Behind the trunk is an earth with squares and triangles making it up. The earth as a whole is in the shape of a semicircle. The area between the tree and the earth is made up several small squares as well as few triangles. The collaboration of the unproportioned geometric shapes of triangles, squares, and circles as well as some free-form shapes make this piece look

The shapes in this painting are all organic because all of the objects in the piece have no true form. For instance, the clouds in the sky are ever changing and the water is constantly moving. The shapes appear to be voluminous because you can see the movement in them and therefore you know they have depth.…

The sculptures that adorn the acre-wide Cullen Sculpture Garden are not just an exhibit. They are an experience. They are to be walked amongst, and viewed as they are exposed to the elements. Light, shadow, weather, all play a part in how they are viewed throughout the day. In essence, no one sees the exact same sculpture. In full light the trees still dapple the sculptures with shadow. Metallic sculptures cast dark shadows. The steel sculptures especially challenged the viewer to interpret its meaning.…

The body of the figure is long and oval shaped. The body of the sculpture is the largest part of the figure. The shoulders are rounded and there is a long oval indentation that resembles a neckline for a dress. Where the neckline is exposed, there is a layer that covers the figures breasts and appears to be similar to an undergarment for the dress that the sculpture is wearing. On the right side of the…

Also, if you look very closely at the painting, you can see some brush strokes that the painter made. I like that because the viewer can see how thick the paint is and how you move onto the canvas. Lastly, I like how there is light around the top of the painting. I love how the artist used different colors and shades. This art piece goes very well in my family's dining room, in my opinion.…

This beautiful piece of art was inspired by Yosemite National Park. The nature and wildlife is a beautiful picture to be painted. You cannot see his brush strokes or lines in this painting but you can see how he integrated the colors so well to bring this picture to life to make it look almost real. It too looks like a photograph taken when it is really a painting.…

The uttermost unifying piece of this artwork is the color. The use of atmospheric perspective relies on the color palette. It heightens the ephemeral quality of light and nature because it is constantly changing. The blues and purples are subtle and encompass the majority of the canvas. The blues are minutely changed and layered against one another. Dow’s color palette is made up of only complimentary colors that strengthen the contrast and reinforce the inspiring nature of light and form. Greens and reds are prominent in the foreground and appear grid like giving each level of rock…

The poem Ancestors by Peter Skrzynecki is a excellent example of belonging and expresses his feeling of not belonging in his family. The poem presents a series of rhetorical questions which reflects on a dream Skrzynecki has had or is having and what he believes the meaning is. We could deduce from this poem and its use of present tense that the dream is a recurring dream about these vague images of Ancestors and how Skrzynecki is desperately trying to understand their relevance to him. In this dream, the ancestors are unfamiliar to Skrzynecki but give off a very powerful presence to him. They appear to have a message for him, but he can’t hear what it is, they are always pointing at him but never speak so there meaning becomes very mysterious. The use of rhetorical questions gives the poem a dramatic feel and makes the reader feel the same frustration that Skrzynecki feels.…

While deciding on a piece of art that sparked my eye I was drawn to glass sculptor Dale Chihuly’s Fiori di Como on page 24. This work of art uses amazing colors and implied lines throughout the piece giving it an unrealistic yet amazing symmetry throughout the work. It is placed on a 70 foot long ceiling suspended above the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, dazzling patrons with its unique designs and colors. When I look at the artistic style of such a creations I feel very happy inside, as if I am staring into a never-ending depth of color and shape, I see many colors flowing together and it makes me think as if, maybe this was the reason behind such a wild creation. Colors, like people, come in many shades and when combined form new colors, they come in multitude of shapes and sizes but always flow together and form something new, something magnificent. Something like Fiori di Como.…

In the following picture, there are various artistic elements and formats. In the background and foreground of the image, it is a neutral color scheme, consisting of whites and browns. In the center of the picture, you will see three basketballs floating in a straight line in an underwater tank. This sculpture really gives the image an architectonic feel. First off the table that is holding the tank is made up of linear lines and the tank is also made up of linear lines which makes the geometric shape of a rectangle. The bold lines around the tank are the contour lines. Inside the tank, it gives the viewer an attectonic feel due to the basketballs inside. The basketballs are made up of curvilinear lines and each ball has a type of writing on, which I will talk about later. The middle basketball brings out the complementary colors, which are orange and blue. The tank is a three-dimensional figure. All in all, this image brings something to the art world.…
