When it comes to the criminal justice system there are several different components of this system, each of these components work hand in hand. These components are law enforcement, the courts, and the department of corrections and all are very vital in the way that the criminal justice system run. Even though each part of the system is important I believe the most interesting component of the system is that of the department of correction. Corrections has grown of the years and is now one of the fasting growing industries in this country. Corrections have change drastically over the years so in this paper I will evaluate and discuss past, future, and present trends of corrections. I will also discuss the budgetary and managerial impact that future trends will have on corrections as well as the impact it will have on the other two components of the criminal justice system. Since the country was founded there have been people who could not follow the rules set aside or people that have committed crimes against the people of their community. In an effort to stop these people from breaking the rules they were either beaten, had body parts removed, and in some cases even killed for what they had done wrong. Many people thought this was too harsh of a punishment so a solution to the problem was to put them in jail for a determine amount of time away from other members of society in an effort to correct the person behavior. While in the beginning conditions of the prisons or jail where harsh with inmates working on chain gangs and lived in harsh conditions in the past the standards of living conditions for inmates got better. They went from living outside in tents or run down building with no running water to present day living in modern facilities with running water light cable television and other perks that inmates of the past didn’t have.
