Trickery In The Patriarch Stories
Throughout the Patriarch Stories the women are portrayed to be tricky and using trickery for good rather than bad which tells us it is sometimes ok to be tricky but can also lead to troublesome endings. The three women who use their tricks for the better are Rachel, Rebekah, and Leah. First of all, Rachel used trickery when she stole her father's gods/idols when Jacob fled back to his homeland away from Laban. Idols where in families household because they would bring a blessing upon the house. Rachel took them with her when she fled with Jacob so they would be blessed and be granted with safety on their journey. Rachel did not tell neither Jacob or Laban that she took the idols and tricked them by placing the idols in her camel's saddle. Although Rachel used trickery for good in Jacob and her favor, Jacob did not know Rachel had stolen the idols, so he planted a curse on whoever stole the idols saying they shall not live. An example of this is if someone invites you to a party but you know there will be bad things at that party such as drinking or drugs, so you can trick the person by saying you have other plans. This is good because it protects you from making bad decisions and helps protect the other person's feelings. It can also be used for good when protect someone else's feeling and help not get them feeling depressed. A personal experience that I have had with trickery was when I was surprising my fired for her birthday with a surprise birthday. We had to trick her by saying we all couldn't hang out with her after school then we drove to her house and hid and when she got home we all surprised her.
