Module 1 Session Long Project
MGT501: Management and Organizational Behavior
Dr. Peter Haried
Introduction
During this Session Long Project, I will be discussing the results of my dining etiquettes quiz I’ve taken. In order to remain culturally smart, participation in either quarterly or annual training in Cultural Awareness via conference discussion or multi-media methods are necessary. A certificate of training shall be provided at the end of the training for online users, and a sign in roster shall be provided for the conference discussion participants. This will allow for effective tracking documentation to ensure that all are trained.
Dining Etiquette
The quiz that I took was the dining etiquette quiz (Cultural Awareness Quizzes, 2013). My intuitions were that this particular quiz will be easy because I am always receiving Cultural Awareness training in the military. However, to my surprise; I failed the quiz. I got seven out of ten correct, which might not sound bad, until you offend someone by not being culturally aware of something you did wrong according to their cultural beliefs. Therefore my prior training and interaction that I’ve encountered with fellow service members and civilians in and outside the U.S. continent gives me an upper hand on some others.
Inter-Cultural Awareness Strength
Inter-Cultural Literacy gives me an upper advantage because of my ability to read, write, speak, and understand a foreign language. When someone goes to a foreign country or deals with a foreign national and is able to speak their native, language they are generally more receptive of the individual. This shows that you have a general knowledge of their culture and know their customs and courtesies. In some cases, the host nation knows the English language. Therefore if someone tries to speak their language but having difficulty, they will let them know that they speak English also. They will have more respect for the individual
