Black film maker Marvin Van Peebles uses this U.S documentary Classified X which was made for the European television to examine the African American film history. This documentary presents a lot of diversities in his characters. In this course we are learning a lot about stereotypes which relates violence in the black cinema community and how it reflects on racism. Since the movie industry came about, the whites has been forefront with an iron fist ready to ruled and take over. Hollywood films has been extremely racist since its early integration in our society. Throughout the 1900s films that were made were not only racist to blacks, but was also making light of the black community. Since white people could no longer have a physical slavery…
In his story, Louis L’Amour represents the chief Cochise as a peaceful and fair chief. Historically, Cochise was a chief of Southern Chiricahua Apaches. He has led numerous raids on the settlers living near the frontier between traditional Indians’ land and both American’s and Mexican’s lands. In the story “the Gift of Cochise”, Cochise and his warriors attack the little village and kill seven men. Cochise, as he enters in Angie’s cabin, decides not to kill Angie and her two children. He leaves her in her home, living peacefully. This representation is ironical compared to the real Cochise, which was a blood-thirsty killer. Another example is when him and his warriors capture Ches Lane, Cochise decides not to kill him. Compared to his warriors,…
The film was originally a script called Tex X, by a young screenwriter named Andrew Bergman. According to the article, “Revisiting Mel Brooks and Richard Pryor’s Subversively Brilliant Racial Satire Blazing Saddles 40 Years Later,” by Jason Bailey, Bergman’s idea was, “H. Rap Brown in the Old West,” and the film nearly came together in 1971 but fell apart. The script was turned around and that is how it landed on Mel Brook’s desk.…
Most workers who work in a clothing store or a store in general are being told to follow the minority customers around the store because they believe that all minorities steal which is not true. I am a minority and I do not steal, just because most minority steal does not mean all of them steal. Being woman males think that we cannot do the things that they do and that we should stay home to raise children, cook, and clean. When I was in the Army National Guard my first unit had an even mixture of males and…
Most of you have seen this commercial throughout your years of watching television, but for those of you who were raised by wolves or perhaps were born under a rock I will retell the horrendous plot of the Trix commercial. This basic plot is as follows: 1. Greedy little kids get Trix cereal. 2. Starving Trix Rabbit wants some of his own damn cereal. 3. Knowing that the kids won’t give him any, Mr. Trix Rabbit tries to outsmart them for his cereal. 4. His disguises always fail and the little kids say, “Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids!” “Trix Rabbit, or the face of Trix cereal, has been seen in advertisements since 1960, hunting to fulfill his craving of Trix.” However, the repentant rabbit is constantly shut down by children just before his achievement with the coined phrase, “Silly Rabbit, Trix are for kids!” I feel this is a great injustice that the Trix Rabbit cannot eat his own cereal.…

"The Real McCoy's (Irving Pincus, 1957) had a Latino farm hand named Pepino. Some shows and movies portray John Leguizanio as a drug-dealing murderer. Never was a Latino cast in a show displaying good family life or decent person with a normal everyday life."…
Although, the Latino population is a fast-growing minority group in Nevada, the reason the political power has not matched its size is because they have a small percentage of Hispanics who are registered to vote as well as a divided community. However, people in Hispanic communities are recruiting more qualified Hispanic candidates to run for office, registering more to vote, and to have a better representation.…
It is a part of human nature to make judgments on others based solely on appearances. The short story “Flight Patterns” by Sherman Alexie reveals the sheer pervasiveness of stereotypes in American culture. The main character, William, is a walking contradiction in that he is a Native American businessman that loves his job and is always traveling, but hates to fly and hates to leave his family. He is also a victim of discriminations, yet he too makes his own judgments on people. In this paper I am going to explore the theme of stereotypes and contradictions in the story, and argue that stereotypes are so ingrained into American society that those who are stereotyped do not even realize they are stereotyping others.…
We categorize based on what society tells us about that certain race or group. For example, society tells us that Mexicans are unintelligent, lazy, or even criminals, but if someone personally knows someone that is Mexican then they will know that this is not true. There is always someone in each race or group that can be unintelligent, lazy, or a criminal. Society sometimes sticks to old stereotypes on some or most races. “On this view, Stereotypes contain information about social groups, including typical and striking group properties, as well as facts about what group members “ought” to be like” (Beeghly, 677). Although not all stereotypes may be true, that does not mean that none of them are wrong. There are some lazy people in every group.…
Television shows should not always be taken at face value, because sometimes there is a deeper message beneath the surface that must be evaluated for context. Television has a way of influencing us, but not all meanings should be taken as truth and believed. We must learn to evaluate, interpret, critique, and form our own opinions and ideas of the material that we are presented with. Chicago P.D. uses stereotypes in the show and it is up to the audience to interpret the meanings and decide whether to take it as the truth or form their own ideologies. One of the main focuses in this particular episode is the outfit, also known as the mob. Everyone thinks of the mob as Italian gangsters that are running around with guns killing people. That…
There is a town in the middle of the central valley. There has been for about 110+ years. It's called Dinuba ,California and it's pretty sheltered. Now, out in the real world, there is so many things about “Black Lives Matter” and “Donald Trump Hates Mexicans”. The stereotypes are almost unbelieveable. Even our own President has stereotyped Mexicans! Besides the point, can these stereotypes and many more affect this little town ? Now the answer to this question is yes. Stereotypes exist at Dinuba High, but honestly, where don't they? The real question is what types? How are the students being stereotyped? This got the students of Mrs. Enns’ Honors classes to go and making surveys about if students have ever been stereotyped, and in what ways were they?…
When people say or think of a distorted image or idea by a person’s race, sex, or religion; we will think that whatever the person said is wrong. It seems like people do not understand what goes on towards people’s lives, and yet they think that stereotypes is something that is true in their mind when it isn’t.…
Many people would say that the ABC series Once Upon a Time is a lousy show, is unrealistic, and does not make sense or follow a good storyline; but over its first six seasons, Once Upon A Time has stolen my heart time and time again for many reasons. These writers and the creators of this show Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis have re-created many people's favorite scenes from their favorite movies like Prince Charming finding snow white and Waking her up with true love's kiss, or beauty and the beast dancing together, and they brought so many favorite and new characters to the show unlike anything before. The writers changed classical fairy tale stereotypes, they give the villains a chance at happy endings, and a deeper backstory than usual,…
Racial prejudice was defined by Allport , one of the first researchers in psychology to investigate the issue, as "an aversive or hostile attitude towards a person who belongs to a group, simply because he or she belongs to that group, and is therefore presumed to have the objectionable qualities ascribed to that group. It is an antipathy based on a faulty and inflexible generalization" (Allport, 1954).…
