Lots of people especially teenagers are still confused with the word “true love”. They often misinterpret it and think that they already found it, but in fact, it is just an infatuation. We should be aware that true love and infatuation differs greatly with each other. Infatuation is an intense feeling wherein only sexual attraction matters to the two persons. It is a short-lived physical desire. True love is also an intense feeling but it is deeper than infatuation. The story of Cupid and Psyche is the most suitable example to illustrate the word “true love”. In the story, Cupid accidentally fell in love with Psyche when he saw her captivating charm. Instead of obeying his mother’s command to shoot Psyche with his arrow and make her fall in love with the most terrible creature, Cupid shoots her to fall in love with him. He kept Psyche and did everything to make her happy and enjoy her stay in his place. Because of his thoughtfulness and sweetness, Psyche fell in love with him, too. Yet, there is an odd thing in their relationship. Cupid didn’t let her see his appearance. They stayed that way but still they are happy. However, the time came when Psyche was planned to ruin by her sisters because of their jealousy. They aroused curiosity in Psyche’s mind by telling her that her husband might be a monstrous beast. So as she was told, Psyche brought a lighted candle that night to witness the appearance of her husband she longed to see. In shock, she found out that he was not a fearful creature as what she had expected but the most gorgeous man she had ever seen. She was mesmerized by what she had found out that the wax of the lighted candle she held accidentally drop in Cupid’s shoulder that awakened him. Thinking he was betrayed, he flew away to his mother to get his wound healed. Psyche was so sorry for what she has done and searched for her love. She went to Cupid’s mother to ask for the return of her husband. It is not easy for her to go and plead to
