Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom
What is the book about?
Tuesdays with Morrie is a true story about sportswriter Mitch Albom and his favorite college professor, Morrie Schwartz. During Mitch's undergraduate years at Brandeis University, he and Morrie form a bond that goes beyond a typical student/teacher relationship.
After graduation, Mitch promises to stay in touch with his professor and moves to New York City with the intention of pursuing a career as a professional musician. He spends several frustrating years working odd jobs and wondering what he is doing wrong. He loses touch with all of his college friends and with Morrie. His musical dreams are dying a frustrating death, and he feels like a failure for the first time in his life.

He returns to school, earns a graduate degree in journalism and becomes a successful sports columnist for the Detroit Free Press, despite his childhood dream of being a pianist. Though successful in his professional life, and married to a wonderful woman after seven years of dating her, Mitch is unhappy and unfulfilled in his personal life, unable to make meaningful connections and commitments with people, relate to others on a meaningful level, and to really live his life.
After seeing Morrie on Nightline as being featured in a piece about living and dying with Lou Gehrig’s disease Mitch calls Morrie, who remembered his former pupil despite not seeing one another for 16 years. Mitch decides to travel from Michigan to Massachusetts to visit Morrie. A newspaper strike frees him to commute weekly, on Tuesdays, to visit with Morrie and record their conversations. Knowing he was dying, Mitch visited Morrie in his study every Tuesday, just as they used to back in college. Their
