On the eighth Tuesday, the two talk about money. Morrie tells Mitch that the problem with people today is the allowance to be brainwashed. The stereotypical quote of “More is good! The more you have, the better you are!” makes it difficult to separate wants and needs. Schwartz interprets the reason behind this is because humans are so hungry for love, substitutions are made to fill the gap. Morrie continues to express that the best way to obtain love, is to offer others what you have to give. Schwartz also infers that the best way to be wealthy is to be it at heart. This then leads to a meaningful and harmony-filled life, because having an open heart will allow you to flow with everyone.
