Rap started between the years of 1979 and 1984, Mostly in West and East of America.
Rap from this period is now called ‘Old School Rap’.
Rap started by people rhyming in poems and using beats with it, poetry was a great influence on rap, mostly Old School Rap.
They typical instruments in the Rap beat could basically be any beat, usually a short 4-8 loop with alot of base.
Some of the most famous rappers include, Tupac Shakur, Biggie Smalls (Notorious B.I.G) Nas, Jay-Z and Eminem.
Old School Rap is basically words with a beat, basically telling a story, mostly about life or struggle, some rap is also about love, but most is about life.

Tupac was born on the East Harlem area of Manhattan in New York and was named after Tupac Amaru the II, he was born to his mother, Afeni Shakur and his Biological father, Billy Garland. Both of Tupac’s parents were active members in the Black Panther Party Society which was a African-American Self-Defence anti-racism group.
Tupac Shakur as a child, wasn’t really in to rap, he started writing poems, about his life and point of views. At this period, reading poems out loud was basically rap. Tupac was a lyrical genius so everyone loved his work.
