In order for compassion to be able to transform a person and society into a better place and a better place. It starts off within the person first they need to act and be different with others to start becoming more passionate within themselves. As in the book “Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life” by Karen Armstrong in this book she tells us how we can become passionate with our life if we follow these twelve steps that she has for us, but there is a specific thing she says about being compassionate “We have seen that compassion is essential to humanity. We have a biological need to be cared for and to care for others. Yet it is not easy to love ourselves.” (Armstrong, 76) As in this quote shows us that us humans, people, etc. care for others but it is not easy for us to love ourselves. Compassion can provide a personal movement transformation by being able to make yourself compassionate which will lead for you to be able to help others no …show more content…
For that to happen one must see the way they treat themselves first because usually if someone is nice to other person and hears them out that shows that they treat themselves in a good way because they are showing the world their mood, the way they want to be treated. As Karen Armstrong says “The Golden Rule Requires self-knowledge; it asks that we use our own feelings as a guide to our behaviors with others. If we treat ourselves harshly, this is the way we are likely to treat other people;” (Armstrong, 77) This a step for us to take to be able to become compassionate within ourselves making us transform into a better person, meaning that we are making a difference in the world because now a day it is very hard to be able find a person who is willing to help a stranger and actually listen to their problems and try to help them out. If we start becoming compassionate with our lives, then others would get influence and start doing the same and we would be able to transform society into becoming a better place that cares for each other and that are willing to help one another in different needs when they need the help and have no one to help them. Another great story that shows that one must and can be compassionate with their lives is “Selected Writings on the Earth

Compassion is important in every walk of life. The definition of compassion is : a virtue of empathy for the suffering of others and a desire to alleviate that suffering. Compassion is important because it makes up who you are and is a strong part of human love. Without compassion, no human could ever get close to each other or function together as a society. Without compassion, people would not be able work together because they would not care about anyone else's pain. There would be no working together towards a common goal, that is one of the key pillars of society. Compassion is reason we have doctors and nurses. Compassion is reason that when we see someone hurt, on the ground, we help them up. In the novel, THE WITCH OF BLACKBIRD POND, Kit and Nat show compassion for Hannah Tupper when her house burns down. She is their friend and they are sympathetic for her and do anything to help her. They even go into the building to retrieve her cats. They are feeling compassion for her and will help to alleviate her suffering, risking the possible legal repercussions of aiding a witch. Another instance in the novel in which the characters show compassion is when Kit teaches Prudence to read and when she defends Prudence from her mother by lying at the trial. The first time was compassion because kit saw prudence had low self worth because her mother has lead her to believe that she is stupid and never will be able to read. Kit sees her suffering and decides to alleviate her suffering, risking Goodwife Cruff's wrath by teaching her to read and write. Later in the book, once kit is accused of practicing witch craft and the townspeople present the evidence of the hornbook with Prudence's name written in it repeatedly, Kit lies for Prudence's sake. She doesn't want Prudence to get beaten by her mother. She risks possible death in compassion for Prudence's situation. Finally, prudence shows compassion to Kit. Against all odds, though she has been educated to not show…

Compassion is something we all must give and receive because compassion is the one thing that makes us human. It is when somebody shows someone else that they care about them, and to stop ones suffering. In other words: love. It is not possible to have love without compassion. The two work together like clockwork. Compassion is necessary to the human experience because if someone is not shown compassion (thus not experiencing it) they will suffer.…

Dictionary.com describes compassion as a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering (2012). Bush describes compassion fatigue as a complex emotion that allows caregivers to hold and sustain themselves in emotional balance while holding patients’ despair in one hand and their hopefulness in the other (2009). Being able to identify the warning signs, know the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of you as a caregiver, and knowing different coping skills and ways to deal with the stressors of juggling life’s activities can help us as caregivers to keep ourselves in balance.…

Helping others puts you in direct contact with other people’s lives. As you probably have experienced, your compassion for those you help has both positive and negative aspects. Compassion fatigue can strike the most caring and dedicated nurses, social workers, physicians and personal support workers alike. These changes can affect both their personal and professional lives with symptoms such as difficulty concentrating, intrusive imagery, and loss of hope, exhaustion and irritability. It can also lead to profound shifts in the way helpers view the world and their loved ones. Additionally, helpers may become dispirited and increasingly cynical at work, they may make clinical errors, violate client boundaries, lose a respectful stance towards their clients and contribute to a toxic work environment. It has been shown that, when we are suffering from compassion fatigue, we work more rather than less. What suffers is our health, our relationship with others, our personal lives and eventually our clients.…

Compassion is an essential attribute that nurses must posses in order to provide appropriate care to the patients and families they come in contact with. Nurses work many long shifts taking care of sick patients and grieving families, and may not take the time to care for their physical, emotional and spiritual needs properly. After a while, the long hours and stress may catch up with them and cause compassion fatigue or even burnout. Nurses must learn to care for themselves first and foremost in order to be healthy, happy and spiritually sound, and this in turns allows them to provide great care to their…

Ascher uses a thoughtful tone when questioning the motives behind compassion. She writes as if she’s thought about this question more than once, she must have been wondering what people’s true motives are for quite some time. The question of whether or not people who perform good deeds really mean it is explored throughout the essay. There is a possibility that showing someone kindness is done only in selfishness. Ascher is not afraid to bluntly ask the question “Was it fear or compassion that motivated the gift?”{Ascher, 47}…

Compassion then becomes an overwhelming part of one's character. Heraclitus once uttered the words, “Character is destiny”. I firmly believe that compassion and humanity for others practiced regularly, has the opportunity to change the destiny of not only the individual, but also the environment in which they exist. Aside from the obvious detriment that compassion fatigue puts on patient care, the condition affects the provider outside of the clinical setting as well. With the continual absorption and internalization of the patient’s emotions, compassion fatigue has a pronounced personal effect. Compassion fatigue can cause desensitivity, isolation, and substance abuse, which can result in an “inability to empathize with coworkers and even family members” (OverExposed: The Cost of Compassion). Imagine being a surgeon treating a child with a severed finger, then after a long day of working you come back home to your child crying over a scraped knee. Most likely the response to your child’s scraped knee would be less empathic when compared to another parent,…

To me, compassion is what pushes us to meet someone in their pain, in their hurt, or in their struggle. The first time I remember receiving compassion was when I was in second grade on a middle-of-the-night flight from Germany to the States. Due to my ear tubes, I was experiencing great ear pain, and a flight attendant noticed my distress. She looked to my mom and asked if she could massage my hand in order to relieve the pain. She took the time to massage my hand, knowing the correct pressure points to alleviate my ear pain, and low and behold, it worked. This flight attendant had to have felt compassion towards my situation and then had a desire to act, in accordance with the Miriam-Webster definition. This is just one small story, but it highlights how far compassion can…
