If accepted, I intend to uphold the leadership aspect of the National Honor Society by contributing in meaningful ways to my community. I feel as though I have created forward momentum already by getting out in my community. This is shown through my time involved in 4-H, the leadership positions I held within it (President and Secretary), and the volunteer initiatives I have led in the past. In my opinion, a leader also needs the ability to be open-minded and independent; qualities I think are ingrained in myself. Compassion then becomes an overwhelming part of one's character. Heraclitus once uttered the words, “Character is destiny”. I firmly believe that compassion and humanity for others practiced regularly, has the opportunity to change the destiny of not only the individual, but also the environment in which they exist. As a part of National Honor Society, it is my personal goal to encourage my fellow classmates and neighbors alike to get out in our community and be of assistance to others.
I believe that my acceptance into National Honor Society would not only further my chances to be a leader in my community, but also serve the community myself. On the flip side of that statement, I also think that my ability to be a successful leader will serve my fellow students well as a part of National Honor Society.
