Donald Trump is stressing his comments about Mexican immigration.
He has many problems with Mexican immigration which is similar to the racial injustice that Kumalo faces except for in the book the racial issues are between the white men and the Africans. In the article Donald Trump says “What can be simpler or more accurately said? The Mexican Government is forcing their most unwanted people into the United States. They are in many cases, criminals, drug dealers, rapist, and etc.” This statement shows the racism that a person can have. In the book there is some dialogue between Kumalo and Mismangu were Mismangu talks about the white people blaming all the crimes on the
Africans.
Alton Sterling shooting in Baton Rouge prompted racial injustice investigation and questions. This incident shows that there are still racial issues in today as there was back when the book Cry, The Beloved Country took place. Alton sterling was a 37 year old black male was arrested and pinned down by two police officers, When while sterling was under complete control of the two officers he said “What did I do officer, What did I do”. Then he was shot multiple times which killed him. This article has the exact same theme (Racial Injustice) as Cry, The Beloved Country. In one of the chapters Mismangu talks about how the White men assume that every colored person behaves the exact same, with constant crime like behaviors. This is similar to what the officers were thinking in that situation with Alton Sterling.
Race, racial injustice, and racism are the 3 R’s. These are three things that everyone is accustomed to. Being seen a White, Black, Asian, and etc.; is all a part of those 3 R’s. In the book Kumalo his son and Mismangu experience that. By traveling through South Africa and hearing many stories about black crime. This is why Racism and Racial Injustice is the main focus in this book. Both of my articles “Donald Trump’s comments connecting Mexican immigrants and crime” and Alton Sterling Shooting in Baton Rouge relate to theme being Racial Injustice.
