Tyler: A Fictional Narrative
“Tyler” We knocked on the door early this morning. After years of that old house just sitting there collecting filth, someone finally bought it. It didn’t seem like anyone was home, I looked through the window and just saw black. No TV, no couch, nothing. Just darkness. I knock again and the door creaked open. It smelt like sludge and cigarettes. I hate the smell of those nasty things. “Hello? Anyone home?” I say. I hear nothing but the trees blowing in the wind. Then I saw a man dressed in all black approach me. “Who are you?” His voice was deep and loud, but not angry sounding at all like I thought. “I’m your neighbor, just around the corner.” He had to be at least 7 foot tall. I was 6 feet and I still had to look up. He took off his coat and suddenly looked a lot smaller. His arms were small, boney. His skin was pale like snow. You could see his bones through his skin. I have no idea how he had such a deep voice to be so thin. “What’s your name son,” the first time I met him he never asked a question, he never did. “Tyler, Tyler Cradic.” He looked at me funny and smiled. I asked, “What’s your name?”

I couldn’t tell if John creeped me out or he was cool. Anyways I went back to see him the next day. He wasn’t home. There wasn’t a car, the house looked even worse then I first saw it. I knocked on the door and it just slowly creaked open. I saw a note on one table and it read, “Go to basement.” It looked just like my hand writing. I opened doors looking for the basement. I finally found it. I could believe what I saw when I walked down those stairs. What I saw changed my life….

“That summer the strangest things began to happen in the rear of the house,” John said. “Doors and windows began to slam. I’d go back there because I thought someone had come in.” Upon inspection though, he would discover the screen door and windows were securely latched from the inside. “There was no way anyone could go out and relatch the door or windows,” John said. One of the more unnerving occurrences even stood his friends’ hair on end. When his friends hung out in the kitchen, which is located in the rear of the house, their cigarettes would mysteriously snuff out. This happened on numerous occasions, but never in the front portion of the house. “I was scared to death of that bedroom, “said john of the room from which most of the spooky happenings seem to take place. That room, which had a window to the kitchen, happened to be his late grandfather’s bedroom and the room in which he died of natural causes 16 years…

Some of the pros for managed care are; Preventive care — HMOs pay for programs, they are set up and are intended at keeping one healthy (yearly checkups, gym memberships, etc.)The idea is, so they won 't have to pay for more costly services when and if one gets sick. Lower premiums — Because there are limits set as to which doctors one can see and when one can see them, HMOs charge a premium and usually they are lower premiums. Prescriptions — As part of their precautionary retreat, most prescriptions are covered by HMOs for a co-payment that also can be very low. Fewer unnecessary procedures —doctors are given financial incentives from HMOs , to provide only needed care, so doctors are less likely to order costly test or surgeries that one does not need. Limited paperwork — While healthcare professionals and facilities have more paperwork, under managed care, HMO members usually only has to show their membership card and pay a very low co-payment.…

I started by asking Mr. and Mrs. Smith what they remembered about the night. The mother hesitantly replied saying her son had told her that he heard weird footsteps before he was attacked. She then started to weep from the realization that the footsteps were from the attacker. As her husband tried to comfort his grieving wife, I asked him what was taken from the house. He thought for a moment and then replied, “Nothing, not a God damn thing.”…

When I was younger, my family would often go on vacation to Navarre, Florida. If it was asked of me, I would not be able to pinpoint the city on a map, but I remember the exact layout of the area where we visited. We frequented the beach so often I can recall with certainty the salty smell in the air. Often when thinking of that town, I reminisce on the feeling of sand under my feet. In the essay “Once More to the Lake,” E.B. White speaks nostalgically about previous experiences on a retreat when he, too, returns to the same area decades later. I, too, have undergone a melancholy similar to White’s.…

Our story takes place in Kent, a nice county based in South England. Our show takes place in 1381, following our main character, Wat Tyler, as he tries to get through these hard times. Our first scene opens with him sitting and thinking about all that he has lost, and all that he may lose. The room is empty and sad, just like Wat himself. He may be a scrappy lad, but he is brave, courageous, and loyal. Most of his family is dead, so he just continues on having no real fun except drinking his problems away. His village is muddy, dirty, and old, but all the peasants still love it because it is their home. After the Hundred Years’ War, the King demanded high taxes to repay the war. In Smithfield, King Richard II, a thirteen-year-old boy with a…

It was a cold stormy night. The house was still. I was lying in bed when I heard a series of knocks at the door. As I descended the stairs the knocks were getting louder and louder. I thought to myself, "Who could be at the door this late at night?" When I opened the door there was a tall man dressed all in black. He smelled of fish and looked like he just walked out of a mud pit. He was having car troubles and needed to use the phone. I invited him in and told him that the phone was down the hall in the living room. Instead of calling the tow truck he called his friend, George, to come pick him up. I invited him to have a cup of coffee and some cookies while he waited for his friend to pick him up. We talked for about an hour when there was another knock at the door.…

I was led by the smoke cloud to a quaint little cottage. It did not appear to be vacant. As I was approaching the door, I noticed a faint glow in the arched window. I assumed it was candlelight. In the corner of my eye, I sensed movement. A blurry and small outline of a person topped the hill. I decided to go in to the cottage even though the movement still was etched my mind. Once in, I walked through a small sitting circle and felt warmth from the fire burning stove. Into the kitchen was a table with food. A warm and fresh prepared meal was set out for two guests. The table had turkey, peas, green beans, bread and pie. I hadn’t eaten since this morning so I decided to help myself to a plate. As I was about to take a bite of the turkey, the wood door pushed open. This sound startled me to the point of coughing. The blurred figure came through the door. It was the person I saw in field. That person was carrying a basket full of garden vegetables. When the person saw me, she asked me who I was and why I was in her house. I told her about my hunting experience and how I had walked upon the cottage. I let her know about how cold it was and that I needed a little warmth and something to eat. She didn’t feel sorry for me in the least bit. I felt extremely bad because she had made this meal for her husband and children. I gave her my regards and lots for rabbits to enjoy. I left on my horse…

    John Doe: A Short Story

The wind whispered through the decrepit building like a thousand ghostly voices. It carried the scent of sulfur, and the nauseating smell of gunpowder; with the slight, damp dusting of rain from above. The sky peeked through small holes in the ceiling; piercing with its gray veil of death, though John Doe was at ease with the crackling of his fire. He poked the coals tenderly and supplied what must have been a chair leg, with intricate carvings and beautiful polished wood. John got up swiftly, ruffling his dark brown hair with callused hands. He flicked his eyes towards the door with a cat-like annoyance and approached it slowly as to not make a sound; stopping almost a foot away from it. A knock sounded through the hollow wooden door breaking the silence now that the fire had ran out of fuel. John clutched his left hip as he flung open the door ready to flee or fight. The wind voiced his thoughts with its sudden silence. When he looked outside, it was as if all color had been taken from the world, and all that was left were drab shades of black and gray. White dust crowded the narrow streets and everything else in between; small spots turned a deeper color as rain…

“Try something like that again and you will regret it” His tone now harsh and scary, causing me to be quiet. His hands returned to my sides as he guided me forward. “Don't touch me” I grumbled. “Is that up to you now?” He asked. I huffed in annoyance and I heard him chuckle. Then he stepped away from me and put his hand on my back and we started walking ahead. After twenty-nine and a half steps, yeah I counted, we came to a stop and I heard my kidnapper shuffling around before I heard…

Its dark and so silent that I could hear a penny drop. However, there’s screeching every few minutes. I can feel a person staring at me but there isn’t anyone there. The lights flicker and I hear a woman scream down stairs. Echoing in the dead silent house in less than a minute. I feel this warmness rush through me and my heart rate has accelerated. My breathing is heavy and I am trying to quietly move down stairs. I feel my hand become saturated with something goopy. My eyes widen as there is a man with dark clothing and something covering his face. He has a knife with bright red fresh blood at the end of the stairs. “You are next,” his deep crisp voice states as he walks out the door. I am unable to move. I am shaking and my chest has this overwhelming pressure. I fall and go blank.…

As I made my way down stairs, my house looked creepier and creepier with every step. I entered the living room expecting to find a home. Instead, I found nothing. Nothing but plain walls with no life. The room was completely emptied, the walls were bare, and dust bunnies outlining where the furniture should’ve been. Even though my house was full of people, boxes and furniture; it was empty. There was no color, expression, or love. This wasn’t my home anymore, and I had to accept that.…
