Type 1 Disease Case Studies

The reporter stated Savannah has Type 1 diabetes and is cared for by her stepmother while her father is offshore working. The reporter stated Savannah was diagnosed with the disease a year ago and even after different interventions from doctors, agencies, and other parents of children with the disease the child is constantly in and out of the hospital. According to the reporter, Savannah has EKA every two weeks and she keeps an extreme high sugar levels. Ms. Nichols stated this is an indication Savannah isn’t getting her medication as needed or a lack of medical care. Per the reporter, on 02/25/16, Savannah was rushed to King Daughter’s Hospital because her sugar levels were 700; the child is being transferred to Batson Children’s Hospital
in Jackson for evaluation. The reporter stated when the child is admitted on other occasions, Mrs. Whitehead takes pictures of the child in the emergency room and posts them to Facebook. Savannah is released by doctors and instructions are given to Mrs. Whitehead but the reporter is unsure if there’s compliance. The reporter stated there are concerns that Savannah may not make it to see this summer if she doesn’t manage her condition better. The reporter stated when she last spoke with Mrs. Whitehead about Savannah on 02/20/16 or 02/21/16, she was told the child was doing great, but today she’s in the hospital.
