The Independence Blue Cross Nurses for Tomorrow Scholarship will afford me to the opportunity to reach my professional goals while setting an example and creating a better future for other nurses of tomorrow. Professionally, I desire the doctorate of nursing practice degree to create change in how nurses are educated. I have large ideas that this degree is helping me refine and learn how to implement. One of these ideas is the creation of a better educational path for individuals that would have traditionally become associate degree nurses. This new path will have the potential to reduce the health disparities faced by these students while creating the bachelor’s prepared nursing workforce.…

Once upon a time there was a nursing student named Jensen Richards. Jensen had always had a passion for nursing and compassion for people. This compassion only grew stronger once she was old enough to work in a nursing home as a CNA. Going to Oshkosh for nursing seemed to be an easy choice for Jensen; it was the only school on her mind. Her parents both attended Oshkosh and it was the perfect distance from home. Jensen knew that she would have to work really hard in college because the average GPA for nursing students was higher than she had received in high school. Ready to take on the challenge, Jensen changed her study habits. Although there are many nursing schools in Wisconsin, Oshkosh is one of the best schools in the state. There…
Nursing is a noble profession. Challenges are the daily norm and being self-driven by the desire to care is a must. And just as challenging is the task of remaining motivated while in nursing school. From all-night study sessions, trips to library for references on new case studies, never ending group and individual assignments to clinical attachments to social obligations, staying focused on graduating can become a cumbersome task for any student nurses, just like in the case of student nurse Jane who is on her (PRCP Pre-Registration Clinical Placement) which is her last clinical posting before she steps into the world of nursing.…
I integrate evidence-based practice in the clinical area with my student. I am also encouraging my students to pursue career advancement and to engage in lifelong learning. Nurses are being encouraged to pursue graduate studies in nursing to address the growing nursing faculty shortage (Cathrow). My goals in the next two years are: to enroll in the MSN concentration in education program in January 2015, and obtain employment as a clinical instructor at the ADN level by summer 2015.…
Nurses share the joys, pains, and triumphs of their patients. Everyday nurses show-up for duty, receive their patients, and without hesitation begin to become a valued member of an extended family. I initially went to school with the goal of becoming a medical doctor. At the time, I believed becoming a doctor was the only way I could ultimately give back to my community through my passion for science. The decision to pursue the field of advanced nursing, developed after sharing my concerns about healthcare in the Mississippi Delta with my local family nurse practitioner.…
Being in the medical field for the past ten years, I have seen the growth and changes in the medical field. When I began my nursing career as a medical assistant, I noticed many other nurses continuing their education to be able to have greater hands on approach in nursing. This opened my eyes to the endless possibilities that a nurse can do, whether it’s with direct patient care or being a resource to patients and other nurses around. After completing my RN in May of 2015, I decided that I really enjoyed being a mentor and teacher to other nurses. That is why I am continuing on with my education in hopes to one day receive my Master’s degree in Nursing and be able to utilize the knowledge and skills that I build, to educate patients. I still…

1.) Vanderbilt was the focus of the first episode with bits of Rockefeller and Carnegie. My favorite among the three was Vanderbilt because he was the first person to do business in such a cut throat and original way. Leaving the rest that came after him to learn from him and develop new techniques from what he had already shown them. Now, Vanderbilt came from the docks of New York City and he was extremely competitive for it.…
A. For my news report, the intended audience was meant to be the new freshmen attending UW-La Crosse. Freshmen students are new to campus life and they want to feel like they belong here, so I decided to write an article about how to handle midterms. This audience was very important to me, because when I was a freshman I had many questions about midterms and finals but I didn’t get any information about them except from the professors.…

I have always been the type of person to put my best efforts first, especially when it comes to helping other people. Since always feeling the need to help other people, I plan to pursue a career in healthcare and I dream of becoming a registered nurse to fulfill my desires to help people. Currently, I am striving to finish my prerequisite before I apply to Cecil's nursing program in the fall of 2017. Walden university is the ideal institution to support my academic pursuits, given their credibility, great faculty, and challenging curriculum.
