The first element is theme. Theme is the underlying meaning of writing. The theme of this prose is man vs. society. It is man vs. society because the ugly duckling is being left out and made fun of by society. He is being treated differently because he looks different than a normal duckling should look like. He was so stressful and he decided to run away from society and live on his own to try and find his place in the world.
The second element is setting. Setting is the place where the story took the place. The setting of this prose is farmyard. It was stated on the fifth line. Location in the farmyard is reinforced with a nest on the first line and a pond on the seventh line.
The third element is characters and characterization. Characters are all the people who included in the story. Characterization is the concept of creating characters for a narrative. The first character is ugly duckling. Ugly duckling is protagonist. He never hurt anyone who has mocked to him. The second character is mother duck. She is just like another mother who really loves their children. She said that ugly duckling is not ugly and just different, is stated on the fourth line. The third character is other ducklings. They are antagonist. They had mocked their sibling because of his appearance. The fourth character is other swans. Other swans are kind because they invited the ugly duckling to live with them, is stated on eighth line.
The fourth element is the point of view. Point of view is the angle of vision from the writer. This prose uses the third singular person because the writer wrote the name of the characters directly.
The fifth element is plot. Plot is the general background of the story that present the sequence of events. The plot of this prose is forward. The introduction part is started with a mother duck gave birth seven yellow ducklings. The rising conflict is when one of seven yellow ducklings is different.
