INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Syarikat Muda Osman (SMO) was establishing by late Haji Muda Osman in early 1939. Starting with the retail, wholesale and distribution of various types of books and stationery, the company has been involved in distribution and marketing of cigarettes in the vicinity of Pasir Mas district. Its mission is to become Book and Stationary Shop Sequence were easy to visit, and having a shop near to you. Its vision is to become a Comfortable Book and Stationary Shop Sequence, and SMO as source knowledge for Malaysian people. In November 1999, following the merger of the parent company Malaysian Tobacco Company Berhad and Rothman International Berhad, SMO has decided to withdraw from the area of distribution of cigarettes. SMO has strategically decided to expand the business in books and stationery by opening branches around the state of Kelantan and Terengganu. Till the day, the SMO has a range of books and stationery shops around the state which are Kelantan in Kota Bharu, Pasir Mas, Pasir Puteh, Machang, Tanah Merah, Kuala Krai, Rantau Panjang and includes a branch in Jerteh, Terengganu. Currently, SMO already have 16 branches, one of its branches was located at KB mall, it address is Lot 1.23B,1.25,1.26&1.27 Pusat Beli Belah KB Mall,Jalan Hamzah,15050 Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia. SMO at KB mall was opened at November 2008. SMO’s offered various types of books such as fiction books, non-fiction book, magazines, novels, and stationery. SMO is also a major supplier of educational textbooks from primary school to secondary schools and institutions of higher learning in Kelantan.

PURPOSES AND OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

1) To identify who most spend at SMO, male or female. 2) To identify most of SMO’s customer are from Kota Bharu or outside Kota Bharu. 3) To investigate whether is it true that most of SMO’s customers are Malay or from other race actually. 4) To discover what range of age did usually go to SMO.
