Context
One-to-one communication is a form of communication in which one person interacts directly with another. It can be done verbally or non-verbally as well as formal or informally. An example of a one-to-one communication in a Health and Social Care setting can be through a one-to-one conversation between a social worker and a client. There are only two people having a conversation between each other with no other participants involved which means it is a one-to-one form of interaction.

One-to-one can be seen as a very effective way of communication. It is effective as you are able to receive immediate feedback from the other person, which makes it much quicker to interact with each other if you are doing so verbally or face-to-face. For example if a nurse was asking the patient questions, the patient can respond immediately. It also allows you to understand and focus on what the other person is saying as there are no other participants involved.
However with its advantages come the disadvantages. A disadvantage of one-to-one communication is that there can be a misunderstanding in communication. In a verbal face-to-face interaction, responses can be inaccurate or misunderstood
