In this assignment I will be explaining how employee performance within my chosen business, Tesco, is measured and how the results can help with the development of the staff, as well as assessing how the importance of measuring and managing employee performance.
Performance management is essentially about creating a strong communication with the people around you in your working environment. It helps a manager monitor and assess how well their employees are developing and if they are reaching their goals and targets set. Through this process, a business is able to state from the correlation between good performance management and the success of the organization through their objectives.
The overall company aims for Tesco are:
Offering customer the best value for money at the most competitive prices
Meeting the needs of customers by constantly seeking and acting on their opinions regarding innovation, product quality, chose, store facilities and customer service
Providing shareholders with progressive returns on their investment improving profitability through investment in efficient stores and distribution depots, in productivity improvements and in new technology

Participating in the formulation of national food industry policies on key issues such as health, nutrition, hygiene, safety and animal welfare
Working closely with suppliers to build long term business relationships based on strict quality and price criteria
Developing the talents of its people through sound management and training practices, while rewarding them fairly with equal opportunities for all
